Weekend Update: 11/25/12

This weekend was a long weekend of highs and lows.

High: Spending time with Luke and Scott and Abby on Thanksgiving Day.

Low: Trying 2 new recipes – an egg bake and coffee cake – that were only just ok.  (pretty though!)

High: Getting new kitchen countertops.

High: Arranging for a babysitter to come over on Friday so Scott and I could have a date night.

Low: Having our movie that we were going to see on our date night (Skyfall) be sold out.

High: Wandering around the dollar store and sharing a white hot chocolate at Caribou with my husband for date night.

Low: Running late on our way to Thanksgiving with Scott’s family.

High: Being the first ones to arrive anyway! And enjoying Thanksgiving with his family.

Low: Luke being fussy.

High: Luke taking a nap during Thanksgiving dinner. (Even the dog’s Thanksgiving dinner!)

High: Luke waking up just as dinner was over and being a much happier baby. Even able to eat cheerios and carrots while we ate dessert. IMG_2660IMG_2664IMG_2651IMG_2659IMG_2654

Low: Trying to listen to an audiobook on my iPod on the way home and accidently pressing a button, losing our spot, and for the love of it, couldn’t find our place again.

High: We gave up and listened to Christmas music instead!

Low: Luke must be going through a growth spurt, because he has not been sleeping well at night!

High: We all slept in until 8am on Sunday morning.

High: Finding joy in a box!

High: Family play time on the floor.

High: 6.5 miles on the treadmill while watching a ABC Family holiday movie.

High: Decorating our Christmas tree.

Low: Coming down with the stomach flu and spending all of Monday in bed feeling awful.

High: Having a wonderful husband who takes care of me . . . and feeling much better today!

Mommy’s Little Turkey

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you are celebrating with those that are closest to you today. We are having a low key day at home, just the 4 of us. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family last weekend and will be celebrating with Scott’s family on Saturday. Planning to make a breakfast feast (Scott’s favorite meal!), playing, cuddling, and going for a family run!

We have lots to be thankful for this year! #1 on our list – this little guy!

Who turned 7 months last Friday!

New things this month:

    • Getting up on his knees and rocking back and forth and sometimes moving a knee –> crawling is just around the corner. Baby gate is installed!
    • Blowing raspberries
    • Pulling himself up on anything! The coffee table, the fireplace hearth, the bathtub, the dishwasher. . .
    • Now is eating 3 meals a day. Cereal for breakfast, fruit for lunch and veggie for dinner.
    • Had his 2nd ear infection. Boo.
    • Sits all by himself in the bath tub and loves it!
    • Loves stroller rides, “petting” Abby, eating paper, getting raspberries blown on his belly, bath time.

Looking forward to. . .

  • Crawling???
  • More new foods!
  • Getting baptized in December
  • Continuing to see his personality develop

When Laura was here last weekend, we did some more crafts. We made a Thanksgiving Turkey craft using Luke’s hand prints and a foot print.

It was super easy. Here’s how you do it:

  • To make the Turkey ‘feathers’. Dip baby’s hand in red paint and stamp 4-5 times on canvas or cardstock. Let dry.
  • Repeat with orange paint and stamp 3 times, just overlapping the red hand prints. Let dry.
  • Repeat with yellow paint and stamp 2 times. Let dry. Thanksgiving weekend_2012 034_thumb[1]
  • Finally, dip baby’s foot in brown paint and stamp in the middle of hand prints to make the turkey’s body.

  • After the foot print is dry, use white paint to make the eyeballs, and after dry, dot with black paint to make the eyes. Thanksgiving weekend_2012 069_thumb[1]
  • Dot of orange paint for the nose and a swipe of red paint finishes the turkey face!
  • Add ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ and ‘Baby 2012’ if you want.
  • I bought some sparkly brown ribbon to hang it with. Just glued to the back with a hot glue gun.
  • Easy peasy and super cute!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!!! Anyone else extra excited this week that Friday is finally here?

To help celebrate, here are a few of my favorites from this week. . .

That this little boy is 7 months old today!

That we have antibiotics readily available to treat his ear infection. Sad smile

#3 nipples on the bottle – what used to take 10 minutes to feed the baby, now just takes 5 minutes!

Fall weather – perfect for running. My favorite running season by far. I love the cool, crisp weather. And it is my favorite running outfit – shorts and a long sleeved shirt.

Thank you to the slower running couple that let me pass you yesterday on my run, you totally made my day, by making me feel like a super buff running Mom with the jogger stroller when I caught you guys and passed you.

Thanksgiving – ok so this isn’t until next week, but my family is celebrating on Saturday and I am getting soooo excited – gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes – yes please!!! And for the Thanksgiving baby foot/hand print crafts that will take place this weekend.

Tell me about a favorite from your week!

Diaper wreath

I got my inspiration from pinterest for this cute diaper wreath for the baby shower last weekend. Sometime different that the standard diaper cake, and wouldn’t require me to roll and rubber band dozens of diapers. (BTW – thanks Laura for doing that for my baby shower!)

It was pretty straight forward to make. Picked up a foam wreath from my local craft store, cute blue ribbon, and a pack of diapers.

I had newborn diapers, which made it a little more challenging because of their smaller size. If I were to do it again, I probably would use size 2 or 3 diapers.

I wrapper a diaper around the wreath, pulled tight and tied with the blue ribbon. Because of the small size of the diapers I used, I did have my husband hold the diaper on the wreath while I tied the ribbon, if you used bigger diapers, you should be able to do it by yourself.

Continue all the way around the wreath until it is covered with diapers.

Then, I trimmed the ribbon so the ends were all a uniform length.

Added a ribbon tied to the foam ring at 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock position to use to hang it up. I picked up a different ribbon with cute baby feet on it, but you could use the same ribbon you tied the diapers with.

Then, I decorated with baby toy rings and a bear teether at the bottom.

And hung it up on the front door! So cute for the baby shower. Smile

I also made my own banners.  ..

Again, super easy to make!

I just took baby boy themed scrapbook paper and cut into triangles. I alternated pattern with colors. On the color triangles, I wrote out the letters B-A-B-Y in sparkle glue.

Then, using a 3 hole punch, punched holes in each upper corner, and threaded ribbon thru the holes.

And hang!

Weekend update: 11/11/12

at the doctor’s office for a 6 month check up.

can you believe that the Holiday coffee cups are already out!?!

Getting ready for piano lessons with Mrs. Payne Winking smile

Toys are so boring. . . climbing on the fireplace hearth is much more fun.

Now that the baby is somewhat mobile, Abby spends most of the time on the couch – out of the baby’s reach!

Lots of help getting ready for Nicole’s baby shower.

I made that diaper wreath!

Someone was very interested in my lunch!

Abby braved the floor during lunch. . . but was busy multi-tasking between begging for food and play keep-away from Luke!

This picture just melts my heart. . .

The afternoon was perfect – 67 degrees for a run outside with the jogging stroller – 4 miles done. and what a difference a day makes – Saturday – 67 degrees and sunny. Sunday – 30 degrees and snowing!

Abby went for a car ride to pick up Papa Murphy’s Take and Bake pizza for the shower. ..

The mother-to-be Nicole! *Loved her shirt!

Our first game – make a baby out of play doh!

Scott was super excited about the punch. . . mix equal parts of lemonade, sherbet (I used raspberry), ginger ale and pineapple juice.

Jodi made one of her fabulous cakes with our ‘colors’ theme.

Our next game – ‘the string game’ –> where everyone measures out a length of string is the length around of the mom-to-be belly. Shane (the father to be) got it right on. .. pretty sure he cheated. Winking smile

Sunday was spent lounging inside from the cold and snow. . .

And in the afternoon, I headed to work for a while for a video conference on asthma. With a chex mix snack! Winking smile

More play time in the evening followed by chicken parmesan leftovers – made from this recipe from Iowa Girl Eats.

Overall a great weekend! Back to work tomorrow. Winking smile

Just what I needed

It was Wednesday night after work.  .. I was on my way to pick up Luke from daycare. I had just had a pretty challenging and tiring day at work. I was looking forward to getting home and getting my run on for some much needed stress relief.

But first, I had to get Luke from daycare, get him fed, bathed and off to bed. Scott was working late at an open house and wouldn’t be home until 9pm. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue, but after the day I had, I wasn’t in any hurry to pick up my *usually* fussy baby from daycare. ** He is normally just on the edge of fussy around 5:30 when I pick him up, because he is hungry and getting close to bedtime.

Thankfully, my little Lukie knew just what Mom needed. . . a smiling, happy baby. From the minute I picked him up from daycare, he was all smiles and laughs. We had a great time together that night.

It was just what needed after having a hard day at work. How interesting that I thought the thing I needed most after work was a run, when really it was my smiling baby! I love how life just gives you what you need sometimes.. . I did get my run in after he went to bed (5 miles!), but that was just the icing on the cake. Winking smile

Here are some pics from our evening! Smile

Weekend Update: 11/4/12

Another weekend already over –> it seems like they are going by so fast lately! I was hoping this one would be better with an extra hour from daylight savings time, but nope! Just up way too early on Sunday morning because someone (cough cough Luke) didn’t get the time change memo.

Abby started out on Saturday morning being ridiculously cute. . . first getting on the couch with her birthday bunny. . . then promptly falling asleep.

I have discovered another awesome use for my iPad –> watching Netflix while on the treadmill. Love!

5 sweaty miles done and someone waiting to play!

Luke is so much fun to play with these days. He is so intent on his toys and loves to sit and play with them.

Abby always wants to be part of play time too –> seriously Laura – she loves her birthday bunny!

Because one toy just isn’t enough –> both hands need a toy!

Luke started to get stuffed up this weekend so we let him have a few naps in the swing. .. I think his days in the swing are very limited – just look at his feet hanging over the edge!

Trip to McDonalds – fries for Mom and Dad, bottle for Luke.

We went up to the cities to have dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Thompson and Uncle Adam and Ashley – to celebrate Adam’s birthday.

He was very interested in helping with presents – especially when the tissue paper came out!

And the best part of all… Cookie Cake!!! It is the best thing EVER. M&M cookie topped with gobs of frosting. We have it at every Thompson family gathering. A birthday staple!

That might have been the highlight of the weekend! Winking smile Hope you all had a great one too – did ya do anything fun???
