Weekend Update: 12/29/13

Hey! Happy Monday. Hope everyone had a great weekend recovering after Christmas. . .

I started my weekend off right with 8 miles while finishing up watching Christmas movies.

Scott and I enjoyed some quiet time with snacks (he LOVES keylime covered pretzels <—my Christmas present to him!),

while Luke and Abby enjoyed some extra loving at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s.

It was above 30 degrees on Saturday morning, so I decided to head outside for my 4 mile run (just in time, because as I type this it is currently –4 degrees!).

Drive up to the cities. . .

Lunch with Scott’s family to celebrate Ashley’s and Grandpa Lee’s birthdays.

A much needed car wash on the way home.

And I finished the day with my least desirable chore – ironing! At least I had cute help.

On Sunday, we braved the COLD temps to check out the house progress.

We lasted about 3 minutes in the –4 weather with serious wind chills.

We played with new Christmas toys.

I got the directions for Christmas Crack from my nurse, Mary. . .

And I made crockpot chicken.

While Luke and I cheered on the Packers against the Bears.

Awesome game with an awesome outcome. Go Pack Go!!

Overall a great weekend!! Smile

What were you up to? Recovered from Christmas yet?

Cinnamon Roll French Toast

I hope everyone had a great Christmas yesterday and you were able to spend time celebrating with your loved ones! We had a great day and I can’t wait to share all the details. But, I need to share this recipe with you first. . . it is life changing. So so so good. So easy. The perfect dish to whip up for a lazy Saturday morning or brunch with the family or dinner any night of the week.

Cinnamon roll pieces baked with eggs and vanilla and smothered in cinnamon roll glaze. Are you drooling yet?

It is fluffy and sweet and filling and the perfect bite. The cinnamon rolls are thick and chewy, the eggs mixed with heavy cream (no one said this was a healthy dish!) and vanilla hold it all together. The pecans add a beautiful crunch. The maple syrup and cinnamon roll drizzle bring it all together.

I made this for dinner last week and Scott and I ate it for leftovers for the next 3 nights. . . so good! Perfect paired with some fresh fruit and a big glass of orange juice! Enjoy!!

Cinnamon Roll French Toast Recipe adapted from Oh my Sugar High.

1/4 cup melted butter
2 cans (12.4 oz each) Pillsbury® refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
5 eggs
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup maple syrup

Icing from cinnamon rolls

1. Melt butter and pour on ungreased 13×9 inch glass dish.
2. Take dough out of cans and cut each into 8ish pieces. Add to buttered baking dish.

3. Beat eggs in medium bowl. Add cream, cinnamon and vanilla and beat until well blended.

4. Pour over cut pieces of cinnamon roll pieces.

5. Sprinkle with pecans and drizzle syrup over the top.

6. Bake at 375 for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.

7. Cool 15 minutes.
8. Remove the covers from icing and microwave on for 10 to 15 seconds or until is it thin enough to drizzle. Drizzle icing over the top.

9. EAT! Holy yum.  Smile

Weekend Update: 12/22/13

Hey – happy Monday..  . or at least it is if you are on vacation this week. Unfortunately for me, people are always sick, so I have to work this week. But, I am still super excited for Christmas and having the day off to spend with my family. I hope whatever you are up to today, you had a great weekend!!

My weekend was awesome.

My sister and I met up for shopping at the outlet mall. Jenny was supposed to come too, but unfortunately, she was sick. We still managed to do quite a bit of damage without her. .  .

Laura thought it was pretty cool that my nails matched my Caribou cup.

Subway is always so good!! We split a foot long turkey and it was delicious.

Major shopping success!!

Shopping burns major calories, so we needed to re-fuel. I love PF Chang’s honey walnut shrimp – and their lettuce wraps are always a staple for us.

Chillin’ by the fire. . .

5 mile Summit Ave. run with Sue and Bob on Sunday morning.

Followed by getting pretty (recognize the scarf from my shopping bag?!) for hanging out with Scott’s friends from high school for the afternoon.

Someone had lots of fun. . .

Another great weekend in the books.

What were you up to? Are you working or off this week?

Friday Favorites: 12/20/13

Hey guys – happy weekend!! *almost. . .

Anyone else have a ton of stuff to do to get ready for Christmas? Yup, me too. I am in a total scramble to get Luke’s Christmas present. We didn’t finally decide what we wanted to get him until about a week ago and now we can’t find it anywhere!! It wouldn’t be the end of the world to give it to him after Christmas, because he’s too young to know any better right now, but it would still be a bit of a bummer. I have a couple more ideas of places to check out, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Anyway, I am off to run errands and try to get everything organized, here are my favorites from this week. . .

How Mom kisses make it all better. Whenever Luke gets hurt, he comes over to Mom for kisses to make it better. And it totally works. Love it.

HauteLook (<—FYI referral link) – have you guys heard of this site? It is basically awesome stuff for great prices by Nordstrom’s. It is one site that I now check out every day. And I totally have their app too. Winking smile

Just a warning – if you see something that you like, don’t wait on it, things go fast!!

Decorations at Luke’s daycare. .  . They always decorate the doors for each holiday and the ones for Christmas this year are so cute!

Luke handing out the present jars to the daycare staff. Such a little Santa. And they loved them, so that was awesome too!!

Luke helping. I was doing laundry this morning and Luke was “helping”. Scott asked Luke what he was doing and he said “I helping Mommy.” Seriously, that kid just melts my heart.

My first red cup of the season. Deliciousness.

Jamberry Christmas nails.

Baby nap time = getting presents wrapped

1st haircut in 18 months. . . glorious.

Are you ready to link it up?

Remember when I participated in Foodie Pen Pals and got these in my box – I have been obsessed! Chocolate and caramel. Sweet and Salty. The perfect bite.

And super easy to make!

Get your 2 ingredients:
1. Rolos
2. Pretzels (I use Snyder’s Snaps)

Unwrap all the rolos.

Place the pretzels on 1 layer on a cookie sheet and top each one with a rolo.

Place in 350 degree oven for about 5 minutes until the rolos are slightly melty.

Top each rolo with another pretzel.

Careful not to smoosh them too much because the rolo will come out of the bottom.

Let cool slightly and then EAT!

You can store these on the shelf or in the freezer. –> you know, if they last that long. . . Winking smile

Holiday Favorites

Hey all!! Are you ready for the Holidays??? I am totally jumping on the Christmas – everything train. Christmas music 24-7, shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, yes. yes. and yes. Smile

Here are a few of my Holiday favorites for you. . .

Favorite Holiday Cookie – sugar cookies with LOTS of frosting!

Favorite Holiday SongI want a hippopotamus for Christmas. I also love this version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman by The Bare Naked Ladies.

Favorite Holiday Movie  – ELF! “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup”

Favorite Holiday Tradition – On Christmas Eve, we get to open one present – usually a book or PJs. When we were younger, the 3 girls always got new nightgowns. And then we would hang out around the fire until it was time to head to church for the candle light service. And Mom would worry the entire time that we were gone that someone was going to break in and steal all the presents.

Christmas_2012 009

Favorite Holiday Meal – For Christmas Eve dinner, we eat appetizers, instead of an actual meal. I love appetizers, especially the ones that my Mom makes!

Favorite Holiday Breakfast – leftovers from Christmas Eve appetizers!

Favorite Person to Shop For – my little sister. We are so alike that it is pretty much like shopping for myself. And it is nice to not have to worry if she will like it or not.  . . if I like it, then odds are, she will too!

Christmas_2012 027

Favorite Way to Open Presents – We open presents one at a time. I love seeing everyone open the present that I got for them, as well as seeing what they get from everyone else.

Christmas_2012 013

Favorite Tree Topper – my parent’s tree has a stocking cap on the top of it, so I didn’t know until I started dating Scott, that most people have an angel or star at the top of their tree (Scott’s parent’s have an angel). But, I have never been able to find a star that I like, so we actually have a mitten at the top of our tree!

December_2012 035

Favorite ornament – so I have 3 answers for this one. #1. My Mom always gives us an ornament for Christmas. It was so when we got married, we would take our ornaments and have a good start to our tree. And that worked out so well! And I love her for it.

December_2012 040

#2. Scott and I pick up an ornament on all of our vacations, so it is fun to pull out the ornament from our honeymoon (to St. Lucia) or trip to Las Vegas and reminisce about our vacations while putting up our tree.

December_2012 034December_2012 030

#3. Luke’s ornaments.

December_2012 038

Tree – real or fake – Normally, we have a fake tree. But this year, our fake tree is too big for the townhome space, so we got a real tree! After having a fake tree for the past 5 years, it is sorta nice to switch it up this year. And it smells ah-mazing!!

Favorite Holiday shopping – last year Laura, Jenny and I spent the day at the outlet mall and it was so. much. fun. We are planning to do that again this year (this weekend!!) and I am really looking forward to it!

What are some of your Holiday favorites? Bloggers – feel free to do this survey on your blog too!!

Holiday gift using Ball Jars

So you guys know how Luke is in daycare right? He goes 3 days a week. . . which I think works out perfectly for all of us, but that’s a post for another day.. . this post is about what to give all those daycare teachers.

It is tough to figure out a nice present to give to 7 people who take care of your child that says thank you, happy holidays and please continue to take great care of my child. And that stands up against the gifts that they get from other parent’s. File this under things that I had no idea that I would worry about when I had a baby. But now, here we are, almost Christmas, and I needed to put something together.

Well, it just so happens that I was sent these super cute blue Ball jars a couple of weeks ago.

And they were literally sitting in the closet waiting for the perfect project.

And one day while I was running on the treadmill, I could see them sitting there and I was trying to come up with something to do with them. I thought about doing a few other crafts, using them for storage, or the standard ’cookie mix in a jar’ present.

And then it came to me. . . they are the perfect little container for a present for the daycare staff.

So easy and so cute. And totally customizable depending on how much you want to spend. I love the blue color of these jars, a little different from the standard clear and gives a little “holiday” feel to them.

In  my jars, I put a Target gift card. Snowman gift card is so cute, right?

Fit perfectly inside the jar.

Then, I picked up a few things at the store that would fit inside. .. chapstick, antibacterial hand lotion, gum.

I also found this little flashlight for the one boy teacher  in Luke’s room.

Add candy!

Tie a cute ribbon around the top.

And you’re done.

Cute and easy, right?

Parents – what do you do for your kid’s teachers??

Any other good ideas for gifts for multiple people??

**Disclaimer – I was give the Ball jars for free, but all opinions and ideas in this post are 100% my own.
