Advocare–max phase recap + results

So, here is my final recap of my first 24 day Advocare challenge. . .

First my thoughts. . .

#1. The most amazing thing. ..  I didn’t miss my daily caramel skim latte (that I have been drinking every day for the past 8+ years) AT ALL. That was my biggest worry going into this challenge and why I didn’t do it sooner. I was afraid that I would miss my latte too much. But it ended up being a total non-issue. Spark is the best.

** And a huge shout out to Chris for saving me this weekend with a few spark samples from her collection since I was a dumb bunny and didn’t order more spark in time for the weekend and was totally dying without it! Thanks Chris! I owe you one.

I am loving starting my day with spark (my favorite flavors: grape, fruit punch and pink lemonade). I think it gives me more energy, better focus, and longer lasting effects than coffee ever did. Of course, I still love Caribou coffee lattes (although – truth be told, not as much as before). . .but I think they will be more of a weekend treat from now on.

#2. Clean eating is A LOT of work. Planning ahead. Meal planning. Prep work. Thinking about your next 6 meals and making sure everything is ready to go for them.

And you know what? It’s worth it. I feel good eating good food. What a concept, right? I really didn’t miss the cheese or dairy. Another amazing thing. Scott said he really didn’t notice too much of a difference in our dinners, other than more veggies.

#3. I missed pop way more than I thought I would. I don’t drink it that often, but when I do, it is nice to have!

#4. I didn’t miss alcohol too much. One super nice sunshine-y day, it would have been nice but I am not a huge drinker to begin with. . . one margarita maybe once every other month. And a Leinenkugel’s Berry Weiss beer in the summer.

#5. I love avocados, but I usually don’t buy them – $1 for one, seriously? I know, I should totally move to California where it sounds like they give them away! But they have been a staple during the challenge. And you know what, I think it is worth it. Real food. Yes please. I love swapping it out for mayo or miracle whip in my chicken salad (thanks for the amazing idea Becky!).

#6. I am not a pill taker. I don’t take a multivitamin. So, this challenge was a lot of pills. And some of them are pretty big. But it was totally doable. Just glad to be done taking all of those pills.

#7. Love experimenting with recipes I normally wouldn’t have – i.e almond flour in my new favorite muffins.

#8. I’m going to continue drinking spark in the morning and before teaching bodypump. I am interested to see how I feel with using spark and doing clean eating and comparing that to taking the MNS3 supplements during the challenge.

#9. I am a true believer in spark as workout fuel. I love drinking about half a serving before class and drinking the rest during class. I have been able to lift heavier teaching BP these last few weeks than before. . .

#10. It’s spendy. But based on how I feel now – 100% worth it.

#11. It’s not easy. The pills, clean eating, not eating dessert, but again, if you stick with it, totally worth it.

#12. I wasn’t hungry. Sure, I was ready for meals, like normal, but with eating breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks.. .  and filling up on real food = happy Katie.

Bottom line – I feel great! I am so happy that I did this 24DC <—thanks for the nudge Becky!! I’m super interested to see how I feel and look going forward with clean eating and using spark. . . I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Oh, and like I mentioned before, I’ve signed up to be an Advocare distributor. Weekend Update: 4/27/14

We had a great weekend. It was rainy and thunderstorms all day yesterday which is my favorite weather (minus the mud pit that is our yard!). . .

Friday Favorites: 4/25/14

woo hoo – happy Friday!! After an impromptu sick day on Wednesday with Luke – this week went super fast. . . however, I am still super excited that it is finally Friday. Looking forward to getting some pizza after finishing the 24DC!

And here are my favorites from this week. . . Happy Friday everybody!!

Banana walnut muffins {clean eating recipe}

So, I think these are my new favorite muffin. They might even be better than my normal banana bread. I know they are way healthier with NO sugar, white flour, or butter. Made with healthy, all natural ingredients – almond flour, coconut butter, banana. And with an added crunch of walnuts and chia seeds. You won’t even notice that there is no sugar in these muffins. Skeptical? Yup, I was too when I first saw this recipe from Lauren. I tweaked it a bit based on what I had on hand and whoa, these babies are amazing. I ate one for a snack last night, breakfast the next day and then, another snack. Yup, probably should have made a triple batch. Bonus points for being Advocare (max phase) friendly!

Banana Walnut Muffins {clean eating!}
Recipe inspiration from Lauren

Makes approximately 12 muffins

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond flour  (love getting my stash from Nuts.com)
  • 3 tsp coconut flour
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tsp coconut butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tsp honey
  • 3 banana mashed
  • 1/4 cup walnut pieces
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. In one bowl combine almond flour, coconut flour, baking soda, chia seed and salt
  3. In a separate bowl combine egg, coconut butter, honey, and banana – mash and mix well.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients and spoon into muffin tin lined with paper or silicone muffin cups.
  5. Bake for about 20 minutes

Being a Jamberry Independent Consultant

Recently I have gotten some request for an update on being a Jamberry Nails independent consultant. . . asked and answered. Smile 

So, I signed up to be a Jamberry Independent consultant in November.

I decided to be a consultant because . . .

1. I LOVE Jamberry’s <—duh.

The sign-up process was easy. For $50 (Normally $99 but I used part of my party sales earnings to put towards becoming a consultant), I got all of this…

And I picked my website name and that was it.

I got support from Jamberry and the consultant team I joined – Thanks Tara!

They also get you involved in a few Facebook pages where you can ask questions, get answers, and get advice.

The company is also pretty supportive in encouraging you to become active quickly and gives advice on how to do that.

After that, it’s up to you.

With Jamberry, it’s all about what you want to do with it. You could probably spend hours upon hours doing marketing, selling, parties, etc. Or you can do as little as you want, depending on how much time you want to put into it. You can do Facebook parties, catalog parties or in-home parties.

I haven’t done any in-home parties yet, but Facebook parties are a lot of fun – they are basically like catalog parties for other products (like 31 or Pampered Chef).

I personally have been pretty low key with it. I try not to do too many Jamberry things on Facebook or the blog. I want people to know about how awesome and fun they are. . . but I also don’t want people to get annoyed hearing about them all. the. time. I have had a few Facebook friends who have gone way overboard with marketing and I have gotten pretty annoyed – I don’t want to do that to anyone!

As for me, I am glad (so far!) that I have become a consultant. I love wearing Jamberry’s and showing them to people. I also like handing out business cards and samples so that others can try them too. BTW – let me know if you want to be hooked up with a free sample to check them out for yourself!

Earth Day–It’s all about Balance

Happy Earth Day!!

To celebrate Earth Day, the wonderful people from Balance Bar and JR Watkins natural cleaning products company, sent me a wonderful “Spring Cleaning Kit.”- to clean up both diet and home.

While people traditionally consider Spring Cleaning to mean window washing, shower scrubbing and more, BALANCE BAR is celebrating the change in season by setting the refresh button and “cleaning up” some of our bad eating habits and introducing some healthier habits – including healthy snacking! –> totally what I am doing with my Advocare challenge!

This was perfect for me to go through the pantry/fridge/freezer with these tips before moving! Cleaned out pantry = less stuff to move = happy husband.

Now, I am not eating the Balance bars while I am doing the challenge because they aren’t challenge friendly (processed and they have dairy).  .. but before (and for sure after),  I love Balance bars for a quick breakfast on my way to work. Best enjoyed with a caramel skim latte (IMHO).  They are gluten free, an excellent source of antioxidants (Vitamins A, C, E), certified kosher dairy and feature 13 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber per serving.

The all purpose cleaner is perfect for the kitchen. .. I love using it on my counters.

And with all natural ingredients, I don’t have to worry about chemical exposure to Luke. It cleans appliances, fixtures, counter tops, floors, tile, woodwork, sinks and walls. You wouldn’t normally think that you would need a cleaner that is appropriate for walls, but once you have a 2 year old. . . it is a necessity! Winking smile

Friday Favorites: 4/18/14–Luke’s Birthday Day

Happy Friday!!

The house is starting to have less boxes, Abby is getting used to the wood floor, and I am in love with  my kitchen. All is good. AND I took off Wednesday and Thursday off of work – Wednesday for Luke’s birthday and Thursday spend more time with Luke at the new house and to continue going through boxes.

My favorites from this week are the memories we made with Luke for his 2nd birthday. Both, Scott and I took the day off of work so we could hang out with Luke. A trip to the MN Zoo was the only thing on the to-do list.

3 ingredient pancakes

So, one thing I am really loving about this Advocare 24DC is that I am trying new things that I probably would have never tried before. See, I love pancakes. Perkins has the best pancakes – IMHO – both buttermilk and potato. If I am making them at home, I have to follow this recipe that uses Chobani – YUM!

But on my challenge = no flour, no sugar, no dairy.

But, I want to eat some pancakes!

I found inspiration from this recipe.  . .

And made these.

Now, don’t be fooled – they don’t taste like regular pancakes. Banana pancakes, maybe, but not fluffy Perkins buttermilk pancakes. But a great clean-eating healthy breakfast that I will be making again. *In fact, after I made them the first time, I made them again the next day – but a double batch so I would have leftovers.

3 ingredient pancakes
1 banana
2 eggs
1/4 t baking powder

Directions

Mix together –>I think the blender works the best.

Spray a pan with cooking spray. Heat over medium heat. Pour a small circle onto pan. Wait for bubbles to form. Flip. Enjoy.

I think these are amazing with a little bit of nut butter. Whoa. So good.

And you better believe there is a stash in my fridge ready for a quick breakfast anytime. IMHO – I think they taste awesome cold from the fridge.

2 years old!

It seems like just yesterday that we were bringing Luke home from the hospital.
