Advocare – why & 3 day update

So, as you all know, I started the Advocare 24 day challenge on Monday. I have a few reasons that I am completing the challenge.

#1. Becky talked me into it. Winking smile Kidding (sort of). . . she had such great results from her first challenge back in January and had really high praise for the entire challenge, and her energy is contagious. It also helped that Caroline said all the same things about it!

#2. so my clothes fit better –> they have been a bit snug since getting back from Hawaii and you know, that never feels good.

#3. so I feel better.  don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel bad, but I know if I can feel better. Remember that saying “you can’t out run your fork.” I feel like I have been trying to do that with not eating the best but continuing to hit it hard with bodypump and running. I want to change that. I want to operate on all cylinders –> by matching my eating habits with my working out habits.

#4. more energy. One of the things that really appeals to me about the challenge is how much energy people seem to have on it. With a toddler at home and a busy schedule otherwise, more energy = yes please.

#5. to develop better habits – a huge part of the challenge is CLEAN eating. While this will be the most challenging part, I think it will have the most benefit on how I feel. Scott isn’t doing the challenge with me, but I am not cooking separately for him, so I am going to be interested to see how he feels as well. Life is busy, we eat pretty decent most of the time, but I know we can do MUCH better.

#6. to lose a bit of weight – I mean really, who wouldn’t like to lose 5-10 pounds?

#7. to get a break from coffee – it’s no secret that I LOVE my daily caramel skim latte. I have had one pretty much daily for the past 8 years (at least). And while I love it and it makes me happy, I’m interested to see how switching it up to spark in the morning changes things – more energy, less energy, will I miss my latte, are there better things out there?

Today is Day 4 of the challenge:

The first 10 days are the Cleanse Phase of the challenge.

Days 1-3:

  • Fiber Drink mixed with 8 oz water + 2-16 oz water, wait 30 minutes
  • Spark mixed in 20 oz water + 2 Catalyst, wait 20 minutes
  • Breakfast
  • Morning Snack
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon Snack with 2 Catalyst.
  • Dinner
  • Before Bed: Herbal Cleanse tablets

*Love Spark. I thought I would miss my morning latte way more. but Spark is delicious and makes me feel more awake than coffee!

*Hate the fiber drink.

I didn’t think it would be that much of an issue – how hard can it be to chug 8oz of gross water? OMG so tough. It stimulated my gag reflex and I thought I was going to puke. I drank *most* of it. Thinking about it now just sends shivers up my spine. I don’t know if I would do that again. *Day 2 was better – plug and chug is the only way to do it.

*Love clean eating. You put good things in your body, you get good results. **recipe coming next week. Smile

I’ve also been sipping on hot water with lemon (thanks Caroline!) and I love that!

*Not sure yet – I have no idea what the catalyst and herbal cleanse are doing/if they are working. . .

BUT, I have noticed that my stomach is flatter, my pants fit better, and I feel good. It’s hard to know if that is from Advocare or just clean eating – i.e. I haven’t had any carbs or sweets since starting on Monday morning.

More updates to come!

Have you ever done Advocare 24DC? Clean eating? Thoughts?

  1. If I had my own kitchen i would totally try it. But the thought of making my own meals around my parents meal time is just annoying. I eat okay, but definitely could do a better breakfast. Usually I have some kind of toast, which isn’t quite enough.

I think pretty much everyone could stand to improve some part of their diet! Good luck with breakfast. 🙂

Another good thing to add to hot water is cinnamon! Helps you balance blood sugar. If I have an abnormal mega sweets day I will normally spend the next day drinking hot water with lemon and cinnamon for my liquids and always feel better after.

  3. Currently, I’m consciously trying to limit sugar and booze. I consumed a lot over the holidays and never really stopped. With a race coming up soon, it’s time to get the eating on lock down.
I’m intrigued by Advocare, but I’m not sure if I’d ever try it…

I wasn’t sure either when I heard about it a few months ago. . . and now here I am, on Day 4! I’ll keep you posted with my progress and thoughts.

  4. I always add a tablespoon or so of apple cider vinegar to my hot lemon water in the morning and it gives me a lot of energy, sometimes more than coffee. Good luck on your challenge!

  5. I am so excited that you are doing the challenge and I love that you and Becky are in it together! It is always so motivational and inspiring to know that you have a buddy in it 🙂 That Fiber Drink, I am with you. Dan’s advice is always to chug, chug, chug, chug as quickly as you can!

Mwahahahaha! I’m so glad I talked you into this 😉 You will love it by the time you reach the Max Phase, I promise! And all of your reasons are great and th exact same as to why I’m doing it again. I already feel a million times better.

  8. So excited for you!!!! I love clean eating! It definitely makes me feel better when I’m eating clean. Can’t wait to see your end results!!!
As for the fiber drink plug and chug is best. I drink mine through a straw and that seems to help.

Looking forward to reading more about your experiences, especially in relation to your workouts. I always had the perception that Advocare proponents were into heavy lifting and bodybuilding type workouts… but your routine of running, aerobics, and bodypump is more in-line with my life!

  10. I love that qoute about not being able to outrun your fork. I’m totally ready for a 24 day challenge after my marathon! Seeing as how I was just in my kitchen eating ice cream directly out of the tub…

I just started reading your blog and I saw that you are doing the Advocare challenge. I love using Advocare!! I found the easiest way when you are doing the fiber drinks is to mix it with oj. I got that tip from my sponsor. It definitely helps to get it down.

Thankfully I am DONE with that fiber drink – but if I ever do the challenge again, I’ll keep that in mind! I’ve also heard the peaches and cream is MUCH better!! And I am a huge SPARK fan now!
