Be happy now.

I’ve decided.

I’m going to be happy.

love quotes | Tumblr

Right now.

Right this moment.

Not later.

Be Happy

Not when the new house is all finished <– ha! when is that even going to be?

Not when Luke is past the terrible twos.

Not when I figure out what I want to do with my life.

Not when I am a specific size or weight.

Not when my medical school loans are paid off.

Not when there are enough hours in the day to get everything done.

But right now.

"Now and then it's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy." - Guillaume Apollinaire

I am done waiting for the next thing before I commit to being happy.

Because when I stop and look around, things are pretty amazing.

But, see that’s the thing, you have to stop and notice.

Otherwise, we can get caught up in the looking ahead to “when” game.

So today, I am happy

because I have an amazing husband,

an adorable 2 year old,

a very well behaved and furry puppy,

a new house,

lots of great jobs that I love (doctor, body pump instructor, advocare distributor),

a loving family,

my parent’s lake place for wonderful weekends in the summer,

the ability to run,Β

and the fact that I am me.

  3. I love this! Happiness is a choice and luckily, it’s one we can all make. In this exact moment I’m happy for the coffee in my hand, the sun shining outside, and the fact that I get free pizza for lunch today. πŸ™‚

What makes me happy today: amazingly supportive family and friends, my healthy baby boy and healthy pregnancy, the ability to be active, the sunshine, an education….I could go on all day.

  7. I absolutely needed this post today! My husband and I are definitely in a transition phase-I’m job hunting, we’re finishing up our condo and getting ready to upgrade into a house AND ready to start having kids. SO, there’s a lot of “when” happening right now. There’s also a lot of good, so thanks for the reminder!

That transition phase is tough because you just start looking ahead to the next step and then it’s easy to lose track of the RIGHT NOW and how amazing this time is! Enjoy the transition. πŸ™‚

  8. I love this post. Just love it. The truth is I really want to be happy and I feel like I’m close, but right now I just feel like it’s not possible. I can’t get my writing to take off, my blog numbers are going down (seriously???), I’ve never had a boyfriend, and don’t really have any friends, I want to move somewhere warm. I hope my Granny is guiding me toward happiness from Heaven, but I feel so stuck. On the other hand, I do have a lot to be happy for, and I needed a reminder to actually be happy about those things. The flowers in our yard are STUNNING, the weather has been nice most days to take walks, my parents love me and are helping me work on novels and screenplays instead of forcing me to get a real job, I have a closet full of fancy designer clothes and accessories (and one day I’ll have somewhere to wear them). It’s just hard to always make the good outweigh the bad, ya know?

I think the point of this post is to find the things to be happy about and to stop getting caught up in the “I’ll be happy when. . .” trap. So, I am super glad you were able to do that – those flowers sound amazing and it is so wonderful you have supportive parents!! πŸ™‚

  9. Great post!
I am happy that I have an adorable two year old as well. He’s the sweetest little boy I know. πŸ™‚

  10. I love this post Katie! It’s so easy to forget to be thankful for what we have RIGHT now. Thanks for the reminder.

  12. What a great reminder to just be happy and think about the things you are grateful for rather than the things that just pi$$ you off! I’m happy that our apartment is warm, my partner is awesome and that I’ve just meet some lovely ladies at our local bloggers meetup πŸ™‚
