Back in January, I took the body pump initial certification and passed.
I then had 2 months to video tape myself teaching the class and submit it for review to get my “official” certification from Les Mills.
I did my video tape at the beginning of March and
am not so patiently awaiting the results. I passed!!!
I subbed a little bit here and there for a few weeks until the next session started and I had my own class.
I taught Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:45pm (at my local YMCA). I had a class of about 15 participants. A good group of regular body pumpers and brand new body pumpers. We started off doing the currently release 84 and then halfway thru the session, I was able to release 85!
It was much easier to learn the new release than my first time learning 84. I had heard this from other instructors that it gets easier with each new release, but I wasn’t so sure. Thankfully it was! It still took me about a week to get it down, I think learning 84 initially took about a month total from learning my 2 tracks for the class and then adding in a few more each class that I co-taught during my training. And I am already looking forward to learning 86!
Now, the bad news. I didn’t have enough people sign up for my evening class for the next session (The YMCA needs at least 10 people to sign up). . . so I am not currently teaching a class. I have a few classes that I am subbing over the next few weeks so that will help to keep me in body pump shape and to keep the teaching fresh in my mind. . but I am so bummed to not have a regular class. (And of course, I am still making Scott practice with me in the basement a few nights per week to make up for not having a regular class!) Cross your fingers for me that next session has better sign up!!
So, body pump is still as awesome as I thought it was going to be. I love teaching it, I love the music, and my muscles from doing it. And now I am an “official” Les Mills Body Pump Instructor!! And I am looking forward to *hopefully* having my own class again next session.
