Happy 5K

I signed up for a race! It is a virtual 5K. I just loved the tag line of the race – “Have a purpose. Push yourself.” And the race fee benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Sign me up!

Here is info from their website. . .

HAPPY 5K Virtual Race
To Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
If you’re happy and you know it… move your feet!
Bring fun to your run and do some good for the world while you’re at it!

The Rules: Run, walk, skip or crawl for 3.1 miles (that’s a 5K!) anytime between now and April 12 in any place you want (including the treadmill, for those of you in frosty climates)!

The Bling: Every finisher will earn this amazing medal! And yes, it glitters.
When you have completed your 5K, just let us know! Post your victory photo and we will send you your medal! Be sure to wear it to school, the office, the grocery store, the mall… show off how strong, victorious and HAPPY you are!

Normally, I don’t really do 5K races. They are a little spendy for me, usually. I tend to train and run longer races. But, I decided to sign up for this race for a couple of reasons.

1. I need some more bling! Come on – what girl doesn’t??? Winking smile I got this cool running medal holder for Christmas, that is now proudly displayed in my bedroom and I look at everyday. But it needs more bling!

from Running on the Wall via Etsy.

2. I thought this would be a good push for me to up my running game. I usually run for about 30 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays after work. I keep it short so I can help with Luke’s dinner and bedtime. I would like to push myself a little more during these runs. And I think I can try to step up my pace during these short weeknight runs and see how fast I can do a 5K by April 12th. Always good to have new running goals!

3. And of course, it is always good to benefit a good cause – in this case the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

4. And finally, I always Run Happy.  So a Happy 5K –> Smile

That’s a really neat idea for a race! Pretty cool that you even get a medal. I’ll have to think about signing up for it…
