Holiday Favorites

Hey all!! Are you ready for the Holidays??? I am totally jumping on the Christmas – everything train. Christmas music 24-7, shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, yes. yes. and yes. Smile

Here are a few of my Holiday favorites for you. . .

Favorite Holiday Cookie – sugar cookies with LOTS of frosting!

Favorite Holiday SongI want a hippopotamus for Christmas. I also love this version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman by The Bare Naked Ladies.

Favorite Holiday Movie  – ELF! “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup”

Favorite Holiday Tradition – On Christmas Eve, we get to open one present – usually a book or PJs. When we were younger, the 3 girls always got new nightgowns. And then we would hang out around the fire until it was time to head to church for the candle light service. And Mom would worry the entire time that we were gone that someone was going to break in and steal all the presents.

Favorite Holiday Meal – For Christmas Eve dinner, we eat appetizers, instead of an actual meal. I love appetizers, especially the ones that my Mom makes!

Favorite Holiday Breakfast – leftovers from Christmas Eve appetizers!

Favorite Person to Shop For – my little sister. We are so alike that it is pretty much like shopping for myself. And it is nice to not have to worry if she will like it or not.  . . if I like it, then odds are, she will too!

Favorite Way to Open Presents – We open presents one at a time. I love seeing everyone open the present that I got for them, as well as seeing what they get from everyone else.

Favorite Tree Topper – my parent’s tree has a stocking cap on the top of it, so I didn’t know until I started dating Scott, that most people have an angel or star at the top of their tree (Scott’s parent’s have an angel). But, I have never been able to find a star that I like, so we actually have a mitten at the top of our tree!

Favorite ornament – so I have 3 answers for this one. #1. My Mom always gives us an ornament for Christmas. It was so when we got married, we would take our ornaments and have a good start to our tree. And that worked out so well! And I love her for it.

#2. Scott and I pick up an ornament on all of our vacations, so it is fun to pull out the ornament from our honeymoon (to St. Lucia) or trip to Las Vegas and reminisce about our vacations while putting up our tree.

#3. Luke’s ornaments.

Tree – real or fake – Normally, we have a fake tree. But this year, our fake tree is too big for the townhome space, so we got a real tree! After having a fake tree for the past 5 years, it is sorta nice to switch it up this year. And it smells ah-mazing!!

Favorite Holiday shopping – last year Laura, Jenny and I spent the day at the outlet mall and it was so. much. fun. We are planning to do that again this year (this weekend!!) and I am really looking forward to it!

  4. Im in the process of writing a Friday Favorites for your link up this week (I have to start early or it won’t get done – ha! Who knew a newborn would make it so hard to write?!)! I want to add some holiday favorites to it now!

I have too many favorite ornaments to name! Each one is sentimental, which I just love when I’m looking at our tree!

I can’t wait for Atlas to grow a little more so we can really make Christmas a fun event filled with special traditions. I love the idea of appetizers for dinner!

woo hoo – super excited for you to link it up tomorrow!! And to hear about some of your Holiday favs! I hope Atlas let you have some time to put it together. 🙂

  5. Becky @ Olives n Wine

I have never heard of a hat on a tree before! My mom always did an angel 🙂 My favorite tradition as a kid was having to wait to run downstairs until my dad turned on the Christmas lights. My sister and I would then barrel down the stairs at lightening speed to get to our presents, haha! I’m on the way home now and secretly hoping I have more Chex mix in my mailbox 😉

Love that the Christmas lights was what you watched for. .. we have a 7am time that we always had to wait for!! And you’ll just have to come back to MN for more chex mix!! 🙂

    • Oh my gosh Becky, my sister and I had to do a similar thing growing up! We had to wait at the top of the stairs and my Dad would go down and check if “Santa had come”. Barrelling down is an appropriate term haha

  6. Haha, I love the mitten on top of the tree! I grew up with an Angel, but those things are expensive (I am waiting for all of the 75% off sales after Xmas) so I just tied a bow on top!

Elf is such a great movie…around Christmas time, when I call my brother, he’ll sometimes answer with “Buddy the Elf! What’s your favorite color?!” It always makes me laugh 🙂

  9. I love this!! We open ONE present on Christmas Eve night too… usually my sister and I exchange one gift. Breakfast on Christmas morning normally consists of cinnamon rolls, a frittata of sorts and mimosas and/or fruity sangria 🙂 Gosh I love this time of year…
