How to enjoy treadmill running {10 tips!}

Hate the treadmill? Then this post is for you! Smile

Here are a few of my tried and true tips for making time on the treadmill a little bit more enjoyable.

#1. Netflix Instant Play. It’s the only time that I allow myself to watch stuff I wouldn’t normally take the time to watch – cheesy Holiday movies and chick flick shows ftw.

#2. Don’t do it if it is nice outside. Let’s be real – if you have a 40 degree day in the middle of winter, get your butt outside and soak it in. No reason to treadmill it up if it isn’t blizzarding (totally a word) and/or a polar vortex outside.

#3. Play with incline and speed (check out this post for a fun easy workout)

#4. Don’t watch numbers. Like a watched pot will never boil, a watched treadmill will take forever. Winking smile

#5. Be happy that you can have a towel, water bottle, Kleenex, chapstick, phone, baby monitor all at your fingertips.

#6. Love that you can rock out with shorts and a tank when it is -10 degrees outside.

#7. How awesome it is that you can run on the treadmill anytime? No need to wait for the time of day for the best temperature or the sun to come up.

#8. If you’re at the gym, you can totally race the guy next to you. Bonus points if you can take a selfie of you “racing” him. LOL, right?Β  Extra bonus points if that guy is your husband at the hotel gym. . .. Winking smile

#9. No need to run around the block to get to that “magic” number on your Run Keeper app.

#10. It’s the perfect post-run entertainment for your 2 year old. Oh, you don’t have a 2 year old? Well, then use your dog, cat, husband, etc. Just set the speed accordingly. Winking smile

What are your tricks for surviving the treadmill?

  1. I love the treadmill. It’s the only way I’m able to run in the winter. I don’t enjoy running when it’s dark at all, it makes me nervous, so the winter takes away all chances of going outside except on the weekend. I always read on the treadmill! PS I spy Pretty Little Liars πŸ˜‰

  2. I love the treadmill! It’s so convenient and I love playing around with speeds and hills. I don’t like running in the dark or cold, so the eliminates about 80 of my usual workout times during the week. I totally agree with all of these tips!

  3. I play a game and turn on the TV when I’m on the treadmill–probably a food channel or the shopping channel and pretend I’m “running” towards the thing I want!

  4. I always have to have a towel over the numbers otherwise it is like watching paint dry….I do math problems in my head. Next alert!

  5. Wisconsin/Minnesota winters. Gotta love em. πŸ˜‰ I’m going to start listening to books while running. I just hope I don’t zone out so much that I can’t remember what they just said.

  6. I like to put a towel over the numbers on the screen so I don’t see them slowwwwwwly ticking by, and I challenge myself to go as long as I can without looking at my watch. (don’t think I’ve beat 5 minutes yet)

  7. I have been listening to Serial while I run. It helps to pass the time, but it definitely doesn’t help me on speed. It is perfect for relaxed treadmill runs!

  8. Love this! Just about to go down and hit the “dreadmill” myself but its all about perspective isn’t it?
