Life Favorites–Jumping into the BIG pool!

Happy Wednesday! I am a busy bee today trying to get ready for the family to head to Disney World! This will be my first time at Disney World and I could not be more excited. . . full recap next week when we get home! If you have any suggestions for our first time, please share!! Smile

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in, so I have lots of favorites.  ..

One of the biggest ones was Luke jumping into the BIG pool at swimming lessons all by himself {to a noodle}. He was so excited and proud of himself. . . and I’ll be honest, this Mom was too!

IMG_3561IMG_3562IMG_3563IMG_3564

Nice weather! It appears that spring has finally made an appearance in MN. I am loving the 50s and 60s and running outside!

IMG_3495

Baby smiles and coos. Heart melting every day.

IMG_3506IMG_3507IMG_3510IMG_3512

He is getting too big too fast!

IMG_3520

And he looks just a little bit like his brother. . .
Luke on the left, Jake on the right!

Aunt Jenny came to visit!

IMG_3560

Mom and Dad selfies with Jake.

IMG_3576IMG_3578

A little too much fun with snap chat filters.

IMG_3579IMG_3580

Luke continues to be the best big brother. It is amazing how much he thinks of his baby brother and how he wants to make sure that all activities include him!

IMG_3586

Back to teaching at the YMCA. Both BP and CXWORX.

IMG_3590

Aunt Laura came to visit!

IMG_3599

Cupcakes from the new place in town – Bluebird Cakery. Delicious! The cookie dough one was amazing.

IMG_3602

Sunday morning coffee run in PJs.

IMG_3603

Framing the newborn pictures of Jake {print from Shutterfly} . . it already seems so long ago that he was that little and new. It seems like he has been part of our family for a long time already! <—that might be part of the sleep deprivation. Winking smile And I am loving my new Easter bunny sign. ..

IMG_3613

I am looking forward to the weekend at Disney. . . and hoping that I don’t melt in the 90+ degree heat!!

Hope you are having a great week – any highlights to share? Plans for the weekend? Have you ever been to Disney? Advice for us??

Thoughts during my first day back to work.. .

{at 3am} of course Jake picks the night before I have to go back to work to decide he doesn’t want to sleep. . .

It’s amazing how much stuff I need to take with me to be gone for 12 hours.

Man, pumping sucks.

Hmmm eating food while it’s hot is pretty nice.

I’d rather be snuggling a baby right now.

IMG_3335

My husband is so sweet. {after getting pink roses delivered at work}

There should be rules about what necessitates an email. I don’t need to know every time there is cake in the break room.

I’m so thankful that I love my job and my coworkers are awesome, otherwise this going back to work thing would really really suck.

No matter when you are headed back to work, it’s going to be hard.

IMG_3455

I have the best friends. . . So nice to get encouraging texts today.

Darn those last five pounds of baby weight, my pants are tight. . . this is why wearing yoga pants is so much better.

I miss Rory and Lorelai {from watching the entire Gilmore Girls series over my maternity leave}

Man, pumping really sucks.

spark is awesome. fruit punch is my jam.

IMG_8759

Getting pictures of Jake from my Mom is the best. He’s such a sweet baby.

IMG_3430

There is nothing better than getting home after work and seeing baby smiles.

Weekend Update–one of my worst nightmares. . .

Happy Monday!

I have the day off today. Both boys are sleeping. Luke is still asleep and Jake was up at 6am, ate some food, played and now is down for a nap.

So, I thought I’d take a few minutes to check in!

We didn’t have very many plans this weekend, which was super nice. . .

Both Scott and I got a chance to sleep in – I took Saturday and he took Sunday. It was glorious!

Otherwise, we hung out,

IMG_3450

I did some BODYPUMP on Saturday – checked out BP101!

I did some meal planning and placed my order on HyVee’s online grocery service. . .

IMG_3468

On Saturday night we went to dinner with Scott’s family to celebrate his birthday.

IMG_3476

IMG_3472

Sunday morning was my worst nightmare. . . ok, it wasn’t that bad but oh man, 6,000 beads on the floor = not fun.

IMG_3478

Jake fell asleep in Scott’s arms at lunch.

IMG_3481

We checked out the local Home Show.

IMG_3483

After the Home Show, I got an email saying that my order from the grocery store was ready, so we stopped by to pick it up on our way home. This was my first time checking it out and man, it wasn’t as awesome as I was hoping. So, you pull in to a spot by the front of the store, call the number and tell them you are there to pick up your order. The lady said ok, they’ll be right out. So, poor Jake hates his car seat and is screaming his little head off .. . . but she said they will be right out, so I just chill and know that we will be on our way home shortly. Well, 10 looooong minutes later, nothing. So, I call again. And she tells me that there are 4 people ahead of me and it will be a while longer. WTF? I am pretty sure I was the only one there when I first pulled in. Thankfully, I think she heard Jake screaming, and promised to come as quick as possible. So, I ended up pulling Jake out of his car seat and feeing him while we waited for another 10 minutes. So, will I do it again? I’ll probably try it again, because it was less annoying than actually going to the grocery store, but I will know ahead of time that I might have to wait for a while and to try to not have a screaming, hungry baby with me! <—sorry for the semi-rant. . . just wanted to share my experience for any other locals!

Back at home, Luke and I made banana bread.

We went on a family run. 60 degrees!

We finished the evening with watching basketball and eating leftovers for dinner. #adulting Winking smile

Off to get Luke some breakfast before taking him to school. Jake and I have a bunch of errands to run this morning – yeah for Target! #itsthelittlethings

Hope you had a great weekend! Highlight??

Day in the life–On maternity leave

Hey there! Happy hump day. Winking smile

hope your week is going well. . . I am off to work today for the first time in 12 weeks! OMG. Time flies. I’m sad to not be spending my day snuggling Jake, but I am looking forward to seeing my coworkers and making people feel better!

I always like reading “day in the life” posts. . . so I thought I would do one of my last few days on maternity leave with Jake.

5:30am – Jake is awake. He is still sleeping in a rock ‘n’ play next to our bed. I pick him up and feed him.

6:03am – He’s done eating and wide awake. Scott is working out downstairs, so I take Jake and lay him on a blanket next to the treadmill. He seems to like the rhythmic sound of the treadmill and is content. I head back to bed!

7:05am – Jake is done being content and Scott needs to get in the shower to get ready for the day. I take Jake into the kitchen and mix up a spark and start emptying the dishwasher.

IMG_3441

7:24am – I mix up smoothies for Scott, Luke and I. Usually Scott makes them, but he is running late today. I give Scott his smoothie and a kiss and he’s off to work.

7:46am – Luke is awake. I give him some hugs and we sit on the couch for a few minutes. Then, I fix him breakfast and let him watch the iPad while I feed Jake again.

8:34am – breakfast is done for both boys. Everyone gets dressed and we take Luke to school.

9:05 – home from drop off. Jake is hanging in his swing. I mix up my smoothie from earlier and eat a few protein balls. I catch up on email and start this blog post.

IMG_3442IMG_3443

9:56am – play time on the floor. Abby always tries to get in on the action. . .

IMG_3447

11:04am – usually I can get Jake to take a long morning nap and workout while he’s sleeping, but he took a few short cat naps today, so isn’t having a longer nap.

So, I take him downstairs with me and he chills on the floor while I do three quick miles on the treadmill.

IMG_3421

1:34pm – Finally, he’s down for a nap. I make my current favorite quick and easy lunch of eggs and toast. And sit on the couch watching Gilmore Girls.

IMG_3422

The afternoon passes in a blur of naptime, more eating and some tummy time.

3:15pm – Jake and I head to Luke’s school to pick him up and we go to the YMCA for swim lessons.

IMG_3424

Luke does a great job and I let him swim for a few extra minutes after class, which earns me a “you’re the best mom ever” comment from Luke. Smile

5:35pm – home from swim lessons. making dinner. tonight it’s chili.

6:04pm – family dinner.

6:45pm – Time for Luke to get ready for bed. Brushing teeth, PJs on and then reading.

7:05pm – While Scott is reading to Luke, I’m trying to get Jake to take a short evening cat nap.

IMG_3430

7:11pm – Nap success. Scott and I hang on the couch and watch the Bachelor finale. <—{no spoilers!} I was SO surprised with the ending! I thought for sure it was the other girl!

8:10pm – Time to wake Jake up for some snuggles and smiles and eating before heading to bed.

IMG_3434IMG_3440

9:15pm – Jake’s asleep. Scott and I don’t waste any time brushing teeth and crawling into bed ourselves.

9:26pm – In bed. We are both scrolling through our phones and chatting about our days.

9:54pm – lights out.

Life lately–update!

Hey there! Happy Tuesday. . .

I am enjoying my last full week of maternity leave. I know all Moms will agree with me on how fast the time flies! I am happy that I won’t have to deal with daycare drop off for a few more weeks. . . my Mom is coming down to watch Jake for the first day I’m back at work plus Scott has more paternity leave to use! Much easier to leave a baby at home with Grandma or Dad vs. daycare drop off!!

And it is spring break for Luke. So, I have both boys home with me all week! We’ve already played “house” more times than I can count. <—Luke’s favorite right now. . . Thank goodness for Legos, Perler beads (kid is obsessed with these), and the occasional episode of Jake and the Neverland Pirates. Smile Also, looking forward to some play dates at the Children’s Museum, the library, and a movie!

Anyway, I thought I’d pop in quick this morning. . . Jake is chilling in his swing and Luke is finishing up breakfast. . . and share a picture update of life lately.

Reading books. . .

IMG_3288

Swim lessons.

IMG_3300

Teaching early morning CX class. . .

IMG_3307

Smiles!

IMG_3286

Hanging out at the YMCA.

IMG_3282

Seriously. My favorite.

IMG_3309IMG_3319

Treadmill miles.

IMG_3338

Legos.

IMG_3344

Big boy napping in his crib!

IMG_3350

Because I just can’t get enough. . . <love>

IMG_3356

And that’s my time. . . Luke is done with breakfast and Jake is telling me he is done with the swing. Smile

Oh, one more thing. Make this meal. We had it again last night for dinner. SO good!!

038_1

I’m hoping to check in with some of our spring break adventures later this week, and I’ll for sure check in after going back to work with an update!

Hope you are doing great! Anything new??

Friday Favorites–2 months + sunshine

Happy Friday! It has been a crazy weather week here in MN. 66 degrees on Tuesday and 20 degrees and snowing right now. . . we are supposed to get 10+ inches!

Jake and I have been enjoying the last few weeks of my maternity leave together.

This is my current favorite photo.

IMG_3238

IMG_3258IMG_3261

First stroller ride outside in the sunshine!

IMG_3193

Life.

IMG_3206

Family run.

IMG_3218

And this photo from Luke’s school Valentine’s Day. Adorable, right?!

Luke_valentinesday

And I could not resist when an adorable girl scout stopped by the house this week to sell cookies. I’m most excited about the s’mores cookies!

IMG_3231

It’s going to be a low key weekend around here. . .  Dinner with friends tomorrow night. I’m making this amazing Chipotle corn dip that my friend, Leah, made when she brought dinner shortly after Jake was born. I’ve made it three times already because it is SO good. I’ll be sure to snap some pics to share the recipe with you next week! Otherwise, planning for some play time in the snow and baking something yummy – any suggestions? I am thinking cookies. Maybe these??

What are you up to this weekend? Favorite thing from the week??

Friday Favorites–Coffee and smiles

Happy Friday!

It is supposed to be in the 50’s this weekend and I am SO excited. Lots of outside time planned – running, a trip to the park, riding bikes!

IMG_3124

I’m also teaching BODYPUMP for the first time after having Jake tomorrow morning (locals – 8:15 at the YMCA – BP99!)

Right now, I am just drinking a caramel latte while Jake chills in the swing. It’s a good day. Smile

IMG_3180

This week has been all about the smiles. It’s amazing how something so simple can bring you so much joy.

IMG_3144IMG_3145

IMG_3167IMG_3168

And this picture comparing Luke and Jake. . . #twins

IMG_3105

My sister, Laura, came and visited last weekend. It was a super short visit, but awesome to have her spend time with us.

IMG_3111

And OMG these cookies from Trader Joe’s. SO good. And good for teaching letters to Luke!

IMG_3143

And it happened. I got sucked into the Gilmore Girls.

I’m on season 4. . . Although I’m not sure I want to finish it, everyone who finishes the series, complains about being so depressed when it is done. What I don’t know is if they are just sad that the show is over or sad because of how it ends?! Should I keep watching it?? Ahhhhh. Decisions. Winking smile

Alright, I’m off to make silly faces at Jake to get more smiles. #momlife

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend. . .. what are you up to??

Postpartum fitness update

Postpartum fitness is tough.

IMG_1686

If there was one piece of advice I could give any new Mom about postpartum fitness, it would be to have patience, because it will get better and easier, you just have to give it time.

Now, if are you came to this blog post to see some crazy before and after pictures, sorry, you won’t find any here. I didn’t take any.

IMG_2570

Also, each person’s postpartum fitness journey is unique. I am sharing my own personal experience, which should not replace your doctor’s advice and recommendations.

That being said, with both Luke and Jake, it was important for me to start exercising as soon as I felt ready, and thankfully, my doctor agreed and encouraged me to start as soon as I felt I was ready.  In my case, that meant starting with walking at about a week postpartum. I started slow and then slowly increased my speed over the course of the next week. By two weeks postpartum, I felt ready to start running. Slowly. And for short distances. I started with a run/walk and then slowly increased from there. I also wore a maternity support band to help support my core.

Over the past 6 weeks (I’m 8 weeks postpartum), I’ve increased my mileage and speed. I am back to pre-baby standard miles for me (about 20 per week), but still working on getting my speed back. Again, time and patience.. . I’ve been mindful of my body, if something hurts or didn’t feel right, I’d slow down, decrease miles for the day, or just stop and try again tomorrow.

IMG_2622IMG_2809

I’ve done that same process for BODYPUMP and CXWORX. Thankfully, I have a bar, weights and a band at home. So, I started BODYPUMP with a light bar and doing a few tracks at a time. And slowly increased the numbers of tracks and then increased my weight. I’m still working back up to my pre-baby and pre-pregnancy weights. . . man, it is amazing how quickly you lose your strength!

IMG_2994

And then last to return was core work. I waited the full six weeks before doing core work. I tried a few times between 4-6 weeks, but it just didn’t feel great, so I waited for my incision to heal further and then tried again. Now, no strange twinges and it is strange to do hovers without a huge belly pulling me down. Winking smile

32 weeks_1

I started teaching again this week. BODYPUMP this week and then CXWORX next week. That’s just how it worked out with the schedule. I probably could have gone back to pump a few weeks ago, but in addition to making fitness a priority, sleep and baby snuggles are also a priority!

IMG_3036

And now since the baby is sleeping, I’m going to go jump on the treadmill for a few miles. . . the fitness journey continues. . . Smile
