Puppy Chow

Puppy chow is one of my favorites.

Really easy to make, as long as you have a large Ziploc bag. . . and the original is  perfect and classic. I mean – it’s the standard chocolate and peanut butter combo – how can you go wrong?

Puppy chow to me is a winter staple.

It is the perfect dessert comfort food while snuggled into the couch watching the snow fall.

Ingredients
9 cups Rice or Corn Chex
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Directions
1. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
2. In a microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into gallon resealable Ziploc plastic bag.
3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Let cool. Store in airtight container or Ziploc bag in freezer.

Enjoy!!

Do you like puppy chow? Have you ever made one of the variations, like cake batter?? –> IMHO they are good, but not as good as the original. Smile

  9. Puppy chow is one of the greatest things ever. Funny story…I used to work at Hy-Vee and they had to stop calling it “puppy chow” because somebody fed it to their dog and it got sick (palm to forehead). So now they refer to it as “people chow.” Check it out if you are ever at Hy-Vee sometime ;).

  13. Confession: I’ve never made or eaten puppy chow. I see in the last comment that you mixed it with trail mix? That’s insane. Deliciously insane.
I did, however, make the caramelitas! They were a HUGE hit here!

WHAAAAAAT? Stephanie that is crazy!! You need to put it on your to-make list. . . your boys would love it! And I am so glad to hear you loved the carmelitas. So yummy!

  14. You absolutely cannot go wrong with puppy chow! This is one of my all time favorite sweet snacks. I made it three times over the holidays to share with family, co-workers, and snack on myself. I usually cut down the butter just a little bit and add an extra heap of peanut butter. My favorite pieces are the chunky ones and I pick through and eat all of them first. NUM!
I have seen the variations on Pinterest for puppy chow but why mess with such a great thing, right?
