Running–transitioning to summer

So, you all remember how I love summer running?

I even wrote a complete post on tips for surviving summer running. . .

But the transition from winter running (mostly) on the treadmill and with increasing temps and humidity = whoa. I’ve had some super tough runs lately.. . 

And, oh man, Luke got heavy during the winter. pushing that jogging stroller is no joke now.


But he is also at a super fun stage, where he will tell me “Come on Mommy.” and then clap for me. He’ll also ask me “Are you all sweaty from running, Mommy?” Kid just cracks me up. Smile 


Summer is transitioning from running in the mornings on Tuesday and Thursdays to running after work. it is tough. I love running with Luke and Scott but that takes up the whole evening. by the time we get back, it is quick dinner and bedtime for Luke. and Scott and I have to do the same before we crash for bed too.

but I get to sleep in later on Tuesday and Thursday, so that is nice. Smile 

And I LOVE family running time. Best part of my day. So, 100% worth it.


I’m starting to increase my mileage on weekends again and it feels good.


I am really liking O2 gold . I feel like it gives me an extra edge for getting that long run done.


I was planning to do a half marathon in the beginning of May but with the new house and moving, I just didn’t have the time on the weekends to dedicate to running. . . now, that I am starting to have that time on Saturday morning and the warmer weather is glorious!

now, I just have to find a race to do. . .

maybe Des Moines again this fall?


but maybe another summer race too. . .

And we will for sure have the whole family at the Le Sueur Crazy Dayze 5K! Smile

  1. I’ll take summer running over winter running any day, but the humidity definitely slows me down! Because of my schedule, I really only get to run outside once on the weekends, but I can still get it in before the crazy heat hits!

  4. I don’t know how you can push that stroller! I can barely run when it is hot out by myself. 🙂

    I have been switching up my runs to morning when possible too. I think it helps kick start your day!

      Agreed – I really like running in the morning before work – and did that all winter – but with the sun and nicer weather I like to be able to include the family on runs, which means after work. . .

  5. I can imagine pushing Luke in the stroller is a GREAT workout. I have a hard enough time running without a stroller. 😉
    I know Dana struggles a bit with the transition from winter to summer running. Especially since this year we didn’t have much of a spring to transition with! He’s doing great though! He has his first marathon in two weeks! EEEEEk! So excited for him!

  6. I love that you run as a family a couple times a week! I would normally transition from evening runs in the spring to morning runs in the fall because of my work schedule (or lack of it) and it helps me beat the heat. I’m trying to figure out exactly what I’ll be able to do this summer.

      Ahhhh it is SO hot after work. . .and working out in the am is the best. I like weekends the best, where we can all go running together in the morning before it gets too hot, but not super early before work!
