Summer Eats

Anybody else eat way different in the summer than winter? I know that I do less cooking in the oven in the summer, but there is also the addition of the grill (not so accessible under a foot of snow in the winter) that makes turning on the oven even less desirable. . .

But on my last hot and humid summer run (12 miles on Saturday!), I started thinking about all  my favorite summer foods. . .

Smoothies –> homemade and from Panera. Strawberry is the best!

Big @** salads

Corn on the cob

All berries – I think blueberries are my favorite!! Scott gave me this big plate of fruit for our 4th wedding anniversary.

Anything grilled – teriyaki chicken, brats, hotdogs

Iced caramel skim lattes or macchiato. . .

Ice cold root beer from A&W – complete with a fresh glass from the freezer.

Fruit pizza!

Cold beer from the Leinenkugel’s Brewery

Ice cream –> bonus points if you get a puppy cup for the puppy!

Margaritas. .

Doughnuts from the Bloomer Bakery while at the Lake

Lemonade –> want the best ever recipe? My mother-in-law makes the best! Check it out here!!

summer lemonade

Strawberry shortcake. . . especially this cake version.

Wow – that’s a lot of favorites – no wonder I do so much running in the summer!! Winking smile

What are some of your summertime food favorites? Do we have any of the same favorites??

And don’t forget to enter my Ellie giveaway for a pair of super cute workout capris!!! Ends tonight at midnight. Good luck. Smile

  1. I love grilling and sweet corn and all of the above 🙂 I love farmers market food in the summer. So fresh. Is that at DQ that you can get a puppy cup of ice cream???

Love the farmer’s market in the summer. I wish I lived in a bigger town for more options, but the one here is pretty good and has all the summer staples.

  3. You just gave me a huge craving for corn on the cob and ice cream at 7:15 in the morning 😉 Corn on the cob is definitely a summer fav, especially when it’s cooked on the grill! The grill is my favorite form of summer cooking…I’ll eat anything when it’s from the grill (almost anything anyway :P). It just tastes better and is full of summer…does that sound weird haha? Ice cream is another summer love 😉

I hear ya – I hate when I read dinner posts first thing in the morning. .. makes me hungry!! I totally agree that everything is better on the grill and tastes like summer! I just saw a recipe for grilled doughnuts – I don’t know how I feel about that one. . .

  4. I never thought to put pretzel crisps on a salad- great idea! I’d say say anything grilled and sangria are my favorite summer eats!

  5. I LOOOVVE frozen yogurt but as you know, I am limiting it this summer. That is number one on my list alongside ice cream. Grilled everything! This summer it’s been all about salmon and kabobs on the grill. Smoothies for sure! Veggies and hummus. “Snacky” meals. Huge salads. Burgers.
    This was fun! Thanks, Katie!

Snacky meals are the best. . we do those at the Lake sometimes. And I haven’t made kabobs at all this summer yet – I have to change that!!

  6. I love peaches, blueberries, grilled everything!, and smoothies. I love all the fresh fruits and veggies of summer, but not gonna lie I’m super excited to start making fall foods soon!

  9. Katie, I think we have the exact same tastebuds because this was a post of my favorite summer foods. I can’t get enough of cold salads and smoothies during the summer. And I order lemonade to drink every time we go out (since I can’t order the margarita right now).

  10. I don’t think there is a single picture on here that I didn’t love. Pretzel chips on a salad.. thats blog worthy! Never thought of it! The buffalo ones would be amazing! Congrats on your 12 mile run in this wicked heat!

  11. I definitely have my go to foods for each season. Ice Cream makes its way into all 4, of course 🙂 This all looks really good. You have inspired me to incorporate more fruit into my meals!!
