Summer Running

I really like MN. For many reasons, but one of the best ones is the running in different seasons. It is so true in MN that if you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes. Winking smile

I wrote a post about how much I love winter running. And I do.

But I also love summer running. I know, I am totally crazy!!

I could do without the humidity, but I love getting super sweaty, runners tan lines, and the heat that summer brings. When else can you take an ice cold shower? Eat a whole watermelon? Or consider popsicles an appropriate lunch? Only after a long, hot, humid, sweat pouring summer run.

And I can’t be the only one that thinks baby sunscreen is one of the best smells. Winking smile

And you all know how much I loath morning exercising, so there is no avoiding the heat for me in the summer. I run right after work in the hottest part of the day. But there is something in a hot afternoon run with sweat dripping in your eyes that makes the rest of the day disappear. . .

And of course, walking is totally acceptable and necessary in the heat. Or even a quick break in the shade.

And finally, I don’t think anything makes an adult beverage taste better than after a long, hot summer run. The salt on a margarita is totally necessary.

So, put on your sunglasses, sunscreen and get out there for a summer run. And enjoy!!

And don’t forget to cool off afterwards. . . Winking smile

Do you love or hate running in the summer??

The Athleta Iron Girl duathlon is coming to Bloomington, MN on Sunday, September 22, 2013. It consists of a 2 mile run – 22  mile bike – 2 mile run. Unfortunately, for me, I will be in Vegas with Laura that weekend. But I was given a $10 off coupon code to share with you guys, in case you were interested in participating! Just use the code: IRONGIRL13.

  1. I love running in Summer too! Margaritas are the best after a long. hot run 🙂 Winter is another story for me…I strongly dislike running when it’s cold!

  2. You definitely are one die-hard runner! I don’t mind running in any seasons either. Although it can get old having to layer up before a cold winter run, it’s enjoyable once your body warms up! If I run in the summer it has to be in the morning (your fav).

  3. I don’t LOVE running in the summer (VA summers are really humid), but I’d definitely take it over running in the winter! I hate the cold and running outside when it’s freezing just makes me miserable!

  4. I do think Minnesota has some great running weather. I don’t mind winter running, but I tend to only go out on the weekends when I can go at 1 pm (when its “warmest”). Last night I squeezed in a quick run before the rain and that felt really really good, but I’m excited for fall running, my favorite!

Yes winter running has its perks especially since I am an after work runner. . . it tends to warm up by then – you know to like 2 degrees. 😉

  7. While 40-degrees & sunny are my dream running conditions, I love summer running too. I could do without the humidity, but there’s just something about the sun pounding down on you, especially on speed days at the track, that is special. And a dip in the pool post-run is the best!

  8. Love running in the summer and the heat! Hate running in the cold winter weather. I grew up in Minnesota and love the summer and fall but don’t miss the winters at all.

  9. I have to say…i don’t really like it. I love the fact that it’s light early so i can get my runs done in the light (morning runner), but i don’t like getting so hot and sweaty. I would much rather run in the snow 😛 fall is my favorite season, though.,,can’t wait for it to get here!
