Friday Favorites: 7/18/14

happy friday!!!!

I am extra excited because my best friend and her family got here late last night to spend the next week with us! We are hanging out in Mankato for a few days, then heading to the Lake for sunshine, swimming and eating. I am already super excited about making this ice cream cake.

Ice Cream Cake with Circus Animal Crust {Lightened Up} - Food Faith Fitness

And yes I timed my 10 day AdvoCare challenge just riiiiiight to be done before they got here! Winking smile

Here are the little things that made me smile this week. . . as usual, please feel free to play along in the comments or by linking up with your blog post!!

–> Our house is finally painted!!

For the last 3 months, it’s been an ugly tan color and now it’s the blue-grey color we picked out sooooo long ago! I can’t wait to give someone directions to the new house so I can say – yup, we are the blue house on the left!

–> This cute bracelet.

One of our BODYPUMP instructors is moving and so tonight is her last class. So Chris and I teamed up and picked out this super cute bracelet to give her. Love all their sayings!!

–> Wearing my favorite workout shirt from my best blends to teach BP90 this week.

–>Taking “after” photos from my 10 day challenge. –> full recap next week!

and hearing yet another story of how SPARK helped someone kick their pop habit     –> nice work Joyce!!!

–> Travel time to school/work in the morning.

Usually Luke is in a pretty good mood and likes to talk and tell me lots of things – what’s out the window, what he’s going to do at school, what he dreamt about last night. I just love these conversations with him.

–> Fruit sale at the local grocery store. Stocked up. Seriously in love with the cherries right now!!

–> new running shoes. Saucony Triumph 11. And of course, my favorite socks.

What made you smile this week?? Plans for the weekend?

Friday Favorites: 4/11/14 {+Feetures! giveaway}

Yippeeeeeeee! Happy Friday. 🙂

I am SO excited.

We are moving into the new house this weekend.

I’m trying not to think of all the little things that still need to be done and focusing on the big picture = that on Sunday night, I will be sleeping in the new house! Smile

So, that’s it. That is what is going on in my life this weekend. What are you up to?

Here are my favs from this week. . . (feel free to play along and link up with your blog post too!)

Moving into the new house! <– of course this is favorite #1!!

Being done with the fiber drink and onto Max Phase. I still think that fiber drink is probably one of the worst things ever. . . so happy to be done with it and onto the next phase. Update coming soon.

Almond butter.

I just found out that the local co-op in St. Peter has grind your own almond and peanut butter. I bought a small container on Sunday to check out. Finished it with a spoon on Wednesday and stopped on my way home Wednesday night to buy more! It’s my favorite on a banana or with a spoon. Winking smile

Taught it for the first time on Wednesday night. It’s different than any other BP release, which is awesome for changing it up and continuing to challenge your self (you have to challenge yourself to change yourself!). I always get super nervous when I teach a new release for the first time and feel so good when it is over and when it goes well. Check and check. Looking forward to teaching it again next week!

Feetures! socks –> do you remember when I first talked about Feetures!?

and how much I loved them?

Well, I still do. They are my all time favorite sock. (Becky agrees with me too!)

I literally get sad when I realize that they are all in the laundry. #firstworldsockproblems

Well, the nice people at Feetures! sent me some more pairs to check out from their spring line. Love the bright colors –> pink is my favorite (of course!). I wear them spinning, running, lounging around the house, painting, moving, yup, basically all the time. . .

Well, I have an awesome giveaway from Feetures!

–> one lucky R4C reader will receive a pair of Feetures! socks.

Awesome, right?

Weekend Update: 3/9/14

Happy Monday!! Did you have a great weekend? We were super busy, but got a lot done and it was a great mix of work, friend and family time and Lukie laughs.

Luke was my helper for another batch of peanut butter banana muffins.

Snack time with an Abby stalker. . .

6 mile run during baby nap time. And rocking out my new Feetures! socks.

I took my 1st trip to Aldi. Their prices are ah-mazing. . . as long as you are ok buying their store brand.

A nice mail surprise from Krusteaz.

Couch time with a little Maui souvenir.

Spin instructor meeting on Saturday morning.

Followed by work time. And Caribou.

Lunch at Wendy’s.

Painting done. Now electrical!

And yes, that is a lawnmower in the basement. Winking smile

Laura and her boyfriend, Tom, came to help too! Laura made an awesome dinner.

Followed by snuggling on the couch.

Sunday morning smiles.

We had lots of helpers on Sunday at the house. Scott’s parents, brother, and his girlfriend – Ashley – who brought me a latte, with an extra shot because of daylight savings time, and my Dad.

After working all day, we took a break and I gave Ashley a tutorial on Jamberry nails and Luke wanted to help.

We finished the day with dinner at Pizza Ranch to celebrate Scott’s birthday (on Tuesday).

Overall it was really good weekend with lots of stuff getting done!! Thank you to everyone who came and helped. Smile The progress is so exciting and I can’t wait to show you all the finished house! Fingers crossed that we can move in the beginning of April!

What were you up to this weekend??

Friday Favorites: 3/7/14

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii!! Whoa – who else is super excited it is finally Friday? Yup, I may be on call and have to spend all weekend either at the hospital or working on the basement, but I am still super excited! So, nothing too exciting planned. Looking forward to seeing some more progress happen on the house this weekend. And to finally finish painting!! Whoop whoop. Winking smile

Here are my favorites from the past week!! Can’t wait to hear yours too. Smile

chia seeds  –> I made a batch of chia peanut butter power bars this week for breakfast. And I just love those those little seeds. I know it drives some people crazy, but I really like how they get that gel around them and sometimes get stuck in your teeth. Yup, I know, I’m crazy.

empty inbox –> it took me almost 2 weeks from getting back from vacation to get to the bottom of my inbox and it only stayed empty for about 2 minutes, but success.

PJ day at school

The cuteness + not having to get him dressed in the morning = winner!

that thing that they put in the top of your coffee to keep it from spilling and keep it warm <– seriously what is that thing called?!!

These muffins. I have been eating one for a snack every afternoon and plan to make another batch today. Love the addition of peanut butter!

FitFluential ambassador. This email seriously made my week. I am super excited to be part of this amazing group.

New Feetures! socks – Mail surprise from the best sock company! I am super excited to get to try out some of the new spring colors of my favorite sock ever. And they are already decorated with a dump truck. . .

Jamberry St. Patrick’s Day nail designs. So cute and fun.

Friday favorites: 5/17/13

Oh man I have the best weekend coming up. .. tonight I am having dinner with my sisters at The Melting Pot – gooey cheese and chocolate fondue –>YES! Then, on Saturday hanging out with the family. Luke is at such a fun age to play with, so I really look forward to spending time just hanging out with him. Saturday night, Laura, is going to come down. We are going to grill – Bacon cheeseburgers!! and I am planning some baking too. Winking smile Sunday morning –> BODYPUMP!! And then my parent’s are coming down to hang out and go out to dinner. So, busy weekend coming up and I am super excited!!! And I don’t even care that it is supposed to rain ALL weekend. ..

Here are some of my favorites from the past week. . .

This way of cooking the perfect chicken breast that I learned from Iowa Girl Eats. . .
1. Pound out chicken to uniform thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap
2. Season really well with salt and pepper
3. Cook in a medium-high pan
4. About 4 minutes per side – until browned and cooked through

I love this planner. . .it is just from Target. (Blue Sky).

But I love that it is pink. Has monthly tabs. And extra pages in the back for notes and blog stuff! I have tried to use my phone to keep track of everything, but I just like regular pen and paper –> especially colored pens!! Winking smile

These socks from Feetures!

I wear them all. the. time. I am literally wearing them right now. It is ridiculous! BTW did you enter my giveaway to win a pair of Feetures! socks?

My husband.. .  I really don’t talk about how awesome he is nearly enough. Smile

He is definitely one of my favorites! And especially because he could laugh this morning about the fact that last night I woke him up, to ask him if he was awake, to go take care of the baby. .. which he did! I don’t think I was his favorite person after that last night, but we both laughed about it when this morning I said “BTW, sorry about last night!”

The “My Panera Card” from Panera. . . it gets you free rewards. If you don’t have one, just ask for one the next time you go. This week –> a free caramel skim latte.

A perfect Thursday pick-me-up!! And did you hear? The Strawberry poppy seed salad is back for summer. . . only the best salad ever!!

Any favorites from the week??? Any big plans for the weekend?

Running wardrobe (+ Feetures! giveaway!)

I am always interested in what other bloggers wear to run or workout. I have found some really good new clothes that way. Meals and Miles did a good post on running shorts –> which inspired me to check out Lululemon for running shorts and now they are my favorite pair and what I wear for 90% of my runs. Becky at Olives ‘n’ Wine did a nice post on what running gear she got in her most recent Ellie box. So, in the interest of spreading the love, here is my usual running gear!

Side note – I wear slightly different things to teach aerobics (i.e capris instead of shorts) than to go running and if there is interest, I can do a post on that. . .

First up: shorts. . . these are the Lululemon shorts that I just love! Comfortable, wide waistband, doesn’t ride up. Pockets!

The tank in the above picture is from Lululemon as well. . . I promise, I did not mean to be a lululemon commercial in this post. . . but it is probably the tank I wear most often to run. However, I am still searching for that “perfect” running tank. Any suggestions???

I have like 6 of these sports bras – Nike Pro with Dry Fit. They fit perfect and keep everything in place. Winking smile

I love these socks by Thorlo. Thick padding in the toe box and heel. Comfy. And pink!

I tried a new running sock recently from Feetures! I was sent a pair of their Elite Ultralight socks to try out. These are different from my usual socks because they have no padding at all and  is definitely a more performance-based sock.

From the Feetures! website and packaging. . .

Better fit. Better feel. Better run.
Sock- lock support system.
Anatomical right and left foot deign enhances fit to help eliminate blisters
Ultra thin construction takes up minimal room inside the shoe
The perfect toe (no irritating toe-seam)
iWick fibers wick moisture to keep feet dry and odor-free
The Power arch provides targeted support where it’s needed most

My thoughts:

First impression – the color – PINK! It is a nice bright pink and I love it. I also love the bright blue toe. First thoughts after putting them on: they fit nice. They conformed to my foot and felt really light. I liked the front and back tabs at the top of the sock that helped to pull them on. I also liked the fact that they were marked R and L for a better fit. After a 5 mile run, no chaffing, no blisters, no sore areas. They didn’t move at all. And my feet didn’t seem very sweaty after I took them off.

A few negatives: if you don’t like minimalist socks, then you wouldn’t like this particular sock (ultra light no show tab – they do have other options with ‘light’ padding). It is really very light and there is no padding. Some people might like this and some probably wouldn’t. Also, they call out that they are a USA company, which they are – a family owned and operated in North Carolina – however, the socks are manufactured in Vietnam. Again, not a big deal for some people, but just wanted to let you know! And they try to be totally open about using global resources to ensure that they have the best materials, manufacturing and quality.

Overall I would give these socks a solid B. I really liked the color and the fit and they did really well on my test run!

I let the kind people at Feetures know that while I liked the Ultralight socks, they were a little too minimalist for my taste. So, they kindly sent me their light cushion socks to check out. I tried out the light cushion high performance and light cushion elite (below).

And I am in love. sock love that is. I have a new favorite pair of socks to wear running, but also just in general. Now, I am always skeptical about bloggers who do reviews of free products and gush about how awesome product x, y, or z is. . . and I will always promise to give you my 100% honest opinion here on Running4Cupcakes. . . so, when I say I am in sock love. it is the total. honest. truth.

These 2 pairs of light cushion are the 1st ones I pull out of the drawer now. And I will have to be honest, when I realize they are in the laundry because I wore them for the past 2 days already, I might be a little sad, and I went crazy when I thought Luke had “put” them away and I couldn’t find them. I have never had this issue with socks before. I mean I have a favorite pair of yoga pants, PJ bottoms, jeans, but a favorite pair of socks, really? really? Yup. Really. Smile So, obviously I give the light cushion an A+. They stay in place during an hour of teaching body pump and a 5 mile run. And they keep up with me while chasing Luke around the house!

Almost immediately after putting on these socks, I had to send this tweet!
