Earlier this week, I spent way to much time on Lululemon’s website. . . and so I thought I would share some of my favorites with you. . .

TYT – Recent Favs

Hi! Tuesday already? Craziness. Scott took the day off yesterday and I am on my last week of medical leave after surgery, so we took the day to get things done around the house and enjoy some extra family time. The weekend was pretty awesome too. . . finally got out on the Lake for some water skiing!

Anyway, today I wanted to share with you a few of my recent treats and favorites. . .

Rocksbox earrings win.

Simple and classic and go perfectly with my diamond studs which were an anniversary gift from Scott. btw – did you know it is super hard to take a picture of your ear. #abbybomb

Did you sign up for your free month yet? Remember, use this code –> running4cupcakesxoxo

New top from Le Tote. Totally would have never picked out a top like this for myself in the store but I love it. Perfect for work and with the details in the back – so much more fun than just a button up shirt.

These aren’t new, but I can’t run without my Nectar sunglasses and the fact that they are pink – bonus! And I have a pair in black too!

New Lulu shorts. I have been basically living in lulu shorts since my surgery and I needed a few new pairs. These are my new favorite. So comfortable. Perfect for summer.

Tracker Short II

I also got another pair of these. in black. love the thick waistband and pocket in the back.

TYT#17 – Shopping!

Shhhhh don’t tell my husband. I’ve been shopping. Winking smile

A new shirt from Reebok. Double score because it’s also a Les Mills tank.

IMG_3408 - CopyIMG_3409 - Copy

IMG_3416 - Copy

New shoes for teaching BODYPUMP from Asics. At first I thought they were too pink, but then I remembered there is no such thing as too much pink! Winking smile

IMG_3459 - CopyIMG_3460 - Copy

And they have the cutest pink ribbon laces!!

My new favorite black leggings. OMG you guys. These salar leggings from Fabletics are literally my new favorite. I have been wearing them all-the-time. They look amazing. Super comfortable. And totally flattering. btw – it is super tough to take a good pic of black leggings. . . just trust me that my husband has been checking out my butt A LOT in these pants. . . Winking smile

IMG_3479 - CopyIMG_3494 - Copy

New boots. The search is finally over. I had been looking for brown boots for literally the past 3+ years. I was super picky. They had to be the right shade of light brown, have a buckle detail and a zipper in the back. And be able to fit my athletic bodypump calves. Winking smile These Steve Madden boots are perfection.

IMG_3495 - CopyIMG_3496 - Copy

Lulu pink shorts. Another thing that has been on my “I want” list for-ev-er – a cute pair of PINK! lulu running shorts. I was browsing at Lulu last weekend and found this pair. Love love love love love them. Smile

TYT #13 – Lulu + Athleta + Fabletics

So, remember a few weeks ago when we went to the Mall of America and I totally teased you with these pics on instagram? And on Friday with my Fabletics package?

And now, I’ve totally been holding out on you with what I ended up getting. I’m sorry. Please forgive me?  Smile

Here’s the goods. . .

Crystal Chaturanga™ Tight –> in polka dots. adorable. And bonus – they are reversible!! I actually haven’t had a chance to wear them yet. . . the weather has been too nice! But pretty sure MN is going to change that asap with snow in the forecast! <—btw – wtf?

Colorblock Chi Tank. Love the 2 colors of this tank.

Perfect for running.

And teaching BP. . . and supervising hand washing.

Cool Raceback from Lululemon – in hyper stripe mauvelous heathered black

Another staple – I already have 2 of these tanks. Great long length, comfy, and flattering. And of course I love the slight hint of pink in the stripes.

And my most favorite thing – these lima capris from Fabletics.

Love doesn’t even begin to describe them! I wore them for a run to try them out. Perfection. Didn’t move once. I wore them to bodypump in the park the next day. Again, didn’t move at all, plus I got compliments on them in class. Score.

Total keepers and I probably need to get another pair!

So, I didn’t break the bank. But got 4 pieces that I know will be some of my favorite workout pieces.

And love love love that both stores have a fitness instructor discount. FTW. Smile

Have you purchased any good fitness gear lately?

Oh, and if you like to buy gear from Reebok – check out this Groupon right now –> $25 for $50 Towards All Merchandise from Reebok.com (Thanks to Annette for letting me know about it!

Friday Favorites: 5/16/14

Happy Friday!! What are you up to this weekend? Scott is planning to continue work outside on the retaining walls, I have to work, we have a get-together planned with a bunch of friends on Sunday, and I am hoping to be able to stop by and visit a friend’s new baby.

Here are my little things from this week that made me smile. . .

#1. Watching the trees get green. Warmer weather is coming!!

#2. Being smoothie buddies with Luke.

I cannot make a smoothie for myself without making one for him too. . . if I try, he wants to share mine and will pretty much drink the whole thing. . . “my turn Mommy.”

#3. Hanging with my sisters. We did Paint Night last week and it was awesome. I wish we got together more frequently.

Ladies – we should get our next get-together on the calendar!

#4. Luke’s new toy bucket. A super cheap, easy party prop for his construction themed party and now the perfect place to hold all of his tools.

#5. This AdvoBar snack – tastes like a milky way with 10 grams of protein.

#6. An early birthday present.

A new lulu top from my best blends (Becky, Melanie & Caroline)! Isn’t it so adorable? I wore it to teach bodypump on Wednesday night and loved it! Thanks again ladies. XOXO.

And now you tell me. . . what made you smile this week??

My birthday wish list

Did you know that May is my birthday month? May 26th is the actual day. Smile

I thought it would be fun to put together a wish list for my birthday. And maybe a little hint hint for my family and husband. Winking smile

Bolder Band in pink paisley. Size small. So cute, right? And they promise to stay put or your money back!

New crockpot. (Yup, I think this officially makes me an adult to have a new crockpot on my birthday list. . .) After making too many batches of balsamic chicken and sweet pork tacos, mine has a crack in it. And you know how much I love and use my crockpot, so that needs to be replaced ASAP.

Stitch Fix giftcard. With building the new house, budget has been tight and girlfriend needs some new clothes. And you know how much I love stitch fix. Having a personal stylist pick out and send you clothes that are perfect for you = yes please.

ScreenHunter_171 May. 09 15.48

This sign from Etsy. In pink. I think it would be perfect for my desk at work.

Doctor MD Custom Personalized primitive wood blocks

Pink calculator for my desk at work. All pediatric medications are weight based, so I have to do a lot of calculations when prescribing medicines to kids. Right now I use my iPhone, but I think a pink calculator would be pretty fun and cute on my desk.

This watch from Micheal Kors. Classic. Simple. Perfect.

Michael Kors Michael Kors Double-Wrap Leather Watch, Golden

Jamberry Nails Strengthening Nail Polish – you all know how much I love my Jamberry’s and my nails aren’t the strongest, but I have heard amazing things about this strengthening polish!

Lululemon gift card –> yes. I am a lulu addict.

Advocare spark. Yes, it’s on my birthday list. It’s that good. Smile

New kitchen and bath towels. With the new house, it would be really nice to get some fresh new towels to go with it.

What’s on your wish list right now?

And I’m linking up with Becky today for TYT. Because any of these things would be a perfect way to treat yourself. . .

New running gear

I’m sorry.

I have been holding out on you.

I have some new running gear that I have been loving lately, and I have been selfishly not sharing my recent finds with you.

When Becky and I went shopping at the Mall of America, I got 2 new tops at Lululemon. Both are awesome.

I was also lucky enough to get this top (Glycerin Print Support Tank II) from Brooks Running to check out, review, and #runhappy.

Of course I love it because of the pink in it. Smile But it also has a built in sports bra. . . which usually don’t work for me and I have to wear a normal sports bra anyway –> But with this top, it is well fitted and everything stays where it is supposed to without the extra sports bra. It has a cute pocket in the back for keys/cell phone/etc. I wore it for my long 9 mile run and it stayed put with no chaffing.

I am usually an Asics running shoe girl, but the latest model of Asics (gel nimbus 14) didn’t work for me, so I had to try something new. . . and I checked out Mizunos.

I love love love the colors! They are a really nice shoe. The only difference from Asics is that there is less cushion and support in the forefoot. But once I did a few runs in them, I got used to the less cushion and really like this shoe. I still love my Asics but love these Mizunos too!!

I had the opportunity to check out SKORA shoes.

ScreenHunter_97 Jul. 27 09.04

Have you heard of this brand?

Based in Portland, Oregon, SKORA builds premium, lightweight performance running footwear that encourage a more bio-mechanically correct, natural stride. The distinctive look and feel of SKORA footwear is based on the function and benefit of a minimalist design philosophy we call Run Real.

I have always wanted to check out a pair of minimalist shoes, but wasn’t sure where to start. And the nice SKORA people sent me a The Base to check out.

First of all, they are super cool. They don’t have laces, but a Velcro cross –strap. They hug your feet and provide a great fit. I have done a few runs in them. I like them, however, I am not sure that the minimalist running shoe is for me. I think I personally need a little bit more support. . . but, I love them for teaching BODYPUMP and aerobics.

For me, I think they are a great cross-training shoe. But I would highly recommend checking these shoes out if you are interested in a minimalist shoe.

Lululemon running shorts. Groovy Run Short.

Scott gave me this pair for my 31st birthday when we were in Chicago. They are my go-to pair of running shorts lately. Light and perfect for summer. Nice thick waistband. Pocket in the back.

Ellie little black capri. Perfect for running, aerobics, BODYPUMP, or pedicures.

I have been wearing these capris everywhere. They stay put. Super flattering. And nice, comfy fabric.

What are some of your current favorite workout gear pieces??

**Disclaimer: I was given the Brooks running top, Skora shoes and Ellie capris for free, but as usual, all opinions are 100% my own.**

Weekend update: 7/14/13

Man, I had a great weekend. Lots of time with friends and family.

Started with a hot and sweaty 5 mile run with Luke. Then, date night with my husband, complete with a margarita!!

On Friday, I met up with Becky and Melanie at the Mall of America.

Of course we had to do some shopping at Lululemon. I still had a birthday gift card to use – 2 new running tops! Thanks Dad. Smile

Then, I met up with Sue to go for another hot and steamy 5 mile run. We were matching pink twins.

Both Luke and I got new shoes. He took his off cause it was too hot, but I kept mine on. . . First time checking out Mizunos. First impression is good. . . full review after I put a few more miles in.

See, I told you it was the best weekend – running & cupcakes!!

Saturday morning we drove up to Le Sueur for the Crazy Days 5K. I just wanted to finish under 30 minutes with both the baby jogging stroller and the dog –> we totally crushed that and finished in 26.46!!

And we had our family picture in the online paper!!

Luke and Abby wanted to get more exercise in.  . .

Afterwards, I did some body pump. Abby was glued to my hip the entire time. It was thunder-storming out and she hates thunder. .. poor girl. IMG_4953

And then baking. Banana bread in mini muffin form. Is there anything cuter than mini muffins. *If you make this recipe, cook time for mini muffins is about 15 minutes.

Sunday was a fun day. .. 7.5 miles for my long run this week. It was almost perfect weather: warm, sunny, breezy, a little hot in the direct sun, but overall better than the hot hot hot runs that I have been suffering through recently.

And a 3 years old birthday party this afternoon. . .

And now we all feel like Abby and are headed for an early bedtime.

Hope you had a great one too. Smile What were you up to?

Running wardrobe (+ Feetures! giveaway!)

I am always interested in what other bloggers wear to run or workout. I have found some really good new clothes that way. Meals and Miles did a good post on running shorts –> which inspired me to check out Lululemon for running shorts and now they are my favorite pair and what I wear for 90% of my runs. Becky at Olives ‘n’ Wine did a nice post on what running gear she got in her most recent Ellie box. So, in the interest of spreading the love, here is my usual running gear!

Side note – I wear slightly different things to teach aerobics (i.e capris instead of shorts) than to go running and if there is interest, I can do a post on that. . .

First up: shorts. . . these are the Lululemon shorts that I just love! Comfortable, wide waistband, doesn’t ride up. Pockets!

The tank in the above picture is from Lululemon as well. . . I promise, I did not mean to be a lululemon commercial in this post. . . but it is probably the tank I wear most often to run. However, I am still searching for that “perfect” running tank. Any suggestions???

I have like 6 of these sports bras – Nike Pro with Dry Fit. They fit perfect and keep everything in place. Winking smile

I love these socks by Thorlo. Thick padding in the toe box and heel. Comfy. And pink!

I tried a new running sock recently from Feetures! I was sent a pair of their Elite Ultralight socks to try out. These are different from my usual socks because they have no padding at all and  is definitely a more performance-based sock.

From the Feetures! website and packaging. . .

Better fit. Better feel. Better run.
Sock- lock support system.
Anatomical right and left foot deign enhances fit to help eliminate blisters
Ultra thin construction takes up minimal room inside the shoe
The perfect toe (no irritating toe-seam)
iWick fibers wick moisture to keep feet dry and odor-free
The Power arch provides targeted support where it’s needed most

My thoughts:

First impression – the color – PINK! It is a nice bright pink and I love it. I also love the bright blue toe. First thoughts after putting them on: they fit nice. They conformed to my foot and felt really light. I liked the front and back tabs at the top of the sock that helped to pull them on. I also liked the fact that they were marked R and L for a better fit. After a 5 mile run, no chaffing, no blisters, no sore areas. They didn’t move at all. And my feet didn’t seem very sweaty after I took them off.

A few negatives: if you don’t like minimalist socks, then you wouldn’t like this particular sock (ultra light no show tab – they do have other options with ‘light’ padding). It is really very light and there is no padding. Some people might like this and some probably wouldn’t. Also, they call out that they are a USA company, which they are – a family owned and operated in North Carolina – however, the socks are manufactured in Vietnam. Again, not a big deal for some people, but just wanted to let you know! And they try to be totally open about using global resources to ensure that they have the best materials, manufacturing and quality.

Overall I would give these socks a solid B. I really liked the color and the fit and they did really well on my test run!

I let the kind people at Feetures know that while I liked the Ultralight socks, they were a little too minimalist for my taste. So, they kindly sent me their light cushion socks to check out. I tried out the light cushion high performance and light cushion elite (below).

And I am in love. sock love that is. I have a new favorite pair of socks to wear running, but also just in general. Now, I am always skeptical about bloggers who do reviews of free products and gush about how awesome product x, y, or z is. . . and I will always promise to give you my 100% honest opinion here on Running4Cupcakes. . . so, when I say I am in sock love. it is the total. honest. truth.

These 2 pairs of light cushion are the 1st ones I pull out of the drawer now. And I will have to be honest, when I realize they are in the laundry because I wore them for the past 2 days already, I might be a little sad, and I went crazy when I thought Luke had “put” them away and I couldn’t find them. I have never had this issue with socks before. I mean I have a favorite pair of yoga pants, PJ bottoms, jeans, but a favorite pair of socks, really? really? Yup. Really. Smile So, obviously I give the light cushion an A+. They stay in place during an hour of teaching body pump and a 5 mile run. And they keep up with me while chasing Luke around the house!

Almost immediately after putting on these socks, I had to send this tweet!
