Weekend Update: 2/16/14–Maui!

Hey! Happy Monday. It’s happy for me because we are in Maui for the week. I am here for a medical conference (Primary Care Update) and Scott decided to tag along. . . The only downside is that I have to spend each morning in the conference while Scott gets to soak up extra sun time. Oh well, I can’t really complain, right? I am in Maui!

But let me back up. ..

Friday was all about getting ready for our trip. And celebrating Valentine’s Day. I filled a bag with some treats for Luke, Abby and Scott. Luke loved pulling everything out of the bag. Pretzel M and Ms for Scott, bones for Abby, and Luke got a few of his recent favorite things – suckers, stickers and crackers. And an Elmo card. Smile

IMG_9086IMG_9092IMG_9090IMG_9091

And I got chocolate too. That Ghirardelli bar = amazing!

IMG_9102

And I treated myself to a Caribou caramel skim latte.

IMG_9101

Thankfully, in between all the packing, I had time to do bodypump. Chris let me borrow her DVD of BP release 80 –> awesomeness. And I think that the bar looks much better with pink sparkly nails.

IMG_9104IMG_9103

And one more trip to the new house to check it out. . . drywall is going up in the basement!! This week while we are gone, they are supposed to be putting in flooring upstairs!

IMG_9106

Saturday morning we dropped Luke off with Grandma (my Mom) and headed to the airport. And of course, had to pick up some coffee.

IMG_9108IMG_9112

And Maui is super far away from MN – 3 hours to Phoenix and 6.5 hours to Maui. That is way too much time on an airplane.

IMG_9116

Thankfully, it was sorta worth it – the view from our hotel room.

IMG_9119

We are staying at the Westin. And their lobby is amazing – koi pond, flamingos and a waterfall.

IMG_9124IMG_9125IMG_9127IMG_9128

Our firs morning here, we consulted Yelp (<—I love that app while on vacation) for a good breakfast location. And for the first time, Yelp failed. Worst. breakfast. place. ever. My latte was over 1/2 whipped cream. The French toast was soggy. And the place was just weird. Oh well..  .

And then we decided since so many people recommended that we had to drive The Road to Hana (including Shelly), and Sunday was the only day we had the whole day free, we hit the road to check it out.

IMG_9132

The drive takes about 2-4 hours depending on how many times you stop along the way. The road is super curvy and you can only drive about 10-15 mph the entire time. And you have to stop a lot to let other cars pass the other direction because the road isn’t very wide. We picked up the Hana Audio Tour which basically talks you through the whole trip and gives you tips on which attractions to stop for and check out. It was super helpful.

We probably stopped about a dozen times over the trip. We are staying in West Maui, so it took us about an hour to get to the start of the road. About 4 hours to drive the Road to Hana and then we circled around to drive back to our hotel – and that took about 3 hours. Long day! We got to see some pretty cool sites. My only complaint was that the road was so curvy, I spent most of the time feeling car sick. So, if you are prone to car sickness at all –> skip this trip!

Here are some pictures from along the Road to Hana.

Black sand beach –> where lava flowed down and was broken into lots of super small bits from the cold ocean water.

IMG_9151IMG_9152

Lots of waterfalls on the trip.

IMG_9154

IMG_9157

We were spent after getting back. All I wanted was some chips and salsa, so I consulted Yelp again and found an very highly rated food truck and we decided to check it out. . . #fail. The tacos were just ok, overpriced and no chips, no margaritas. Thankfully, Peggy and Brian – who are here for the week with us – joined us for dinner, so the conversation helped to save dinner.

Then, we got back to the hotel and watched a little bit of the Olympics – and Bode Miller get the bronze medal. How hard to watch was that interview?

And then since the 4 hour time change is killing us – we went to bed at 10pm!

Up early this morning – coffee in hand – for the conference.

Looking forward to a run this afternoon, some beach time and then a Luau tonight!!

What were you up to this weekend?

Valentine’s Day Craft

So remember how I bought that hurricane glass for my fall craft?

And then I changed it into a Christmas decoration?

Well, now that the Christmas stuff is put away. . .time for something new.

And with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I decided to do a Valentine’s Day decoration.

IMG_8450

All you need is a hurricane glass, small candle, and candy hearts.

IMG_8444

Super easy. Pour the hearts in. Top with candle. Done and done.  Cute, right?

IMG_8448IMG_8451

Want more Valentine’s Day ideas?

This is the craft Luke and I did together last year.

006

Jamberry has some super cute Valentine’s nail designs.

IMG_8190

And I love this heart wreath that I found via Pinterest.

Super cute valentine wreath

And I totally think this would be a perfect cake to make for the big day.

Vanilla cake with strawberry cream frosting.

Any good Valentine’s Day ideas to share? Any plans so far?

Friday Smiles

Happy Friday! I think this week went by pretty fast, it helped with the “holiday” yesterday! But, I am super excited that it’s the weekend. Laura is coming to visit! Planning to make an ice cream cake and do lots of Body Pump together <—those two things go together, right? Winking smile

Check out this cute Valentine that Luke “made” for us at daycare. Love!

002005

And because it is Friday, here are a few more things that have made me smile lately!

My 31 bag

 012 (3)
My friend, Jodi, had a 31 party before Christmas. I went because I wanted to check it out, but mainly because Jodi knows how to throw a good party complete with awesome food (And Sarah and Nicole were going to be there too!). 😉 But oh my goodness – they have so many awesome bags. I ended up spending over $100! By far my most favorite bag is this one – the large utility tote. It is the best bag ever! It is as large as a laundry basket and has handles that are long enough to go over your shoulder.

030 (2)

I use it when I go to the grocery store, Sam’s Club, or even to my parent’s house for the weekend. It fit (almost) all of our Christmas presents too! 029 (2)

Colored pens

IMG_3191

I love different colored pens – they just make writing things in my planner so much more exciting! It’s the little things, right? 😉

Crockpot

005 (2)

This is such a great appliance. I am super excited to be participating in the crockpot challenge, so I actually use it more. I think I forget about it way too much!

Meal planning

I just started doing this recently, but it has made such a huge difference. No more stress on the way home from work trying to figure out what is for dinner, less eating out because we have a plan, and more leftovers because I am making dinner more frequently. I actually did a meal plan for all of January because we were trying to eat out less and I knew if we had a plan and meals that we were looking forward to at home, we would be a lot more successful! Of course, we had some changes along the way. . but overall it went really well. I did it again for February and so far so good! Nachos for dinner tonight and honey sesame chicken (in the crockpot!) tomorrow night.

And these 2 smiling faces!

What are some things that have made you smile recently? Any plans for the weekend?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Or Happy Thursday, as we are calling it in our house! We are postponing celebrating Valentine’s Day, until next weekend. . . when we can get a babysitter. Smile But, still wanted to pop in and wish you all a very happy Valentine’s Day!

Do you have any fun plans today?

I have to go to work (wearing my fun Valentine’s Day socks!), then play time with the baby and exciting leftovers for dinner. Then, Scott and I are going to do Body Pump together after the baby goes to bed. . . he has been doing the class with me a few times, so I have someone to practice teaching the class to! The couple that sweats together , stays together, right? Winking smile

And when I was searching images for Valentine’s Day cupcakes. .. I came across this. ..

How crazy is that! Super cute. Here is the website the image is from, if you’re interested. I already know I am not that talented. Winking smile

Have a great Thursday Valentine’s Day!

***BOGO at Caribou Coffee today!

Baby Valentine’s Day Craft

Valentine's Day Baby Craft

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I needed a new craft to do with Luke.. . Enter Pinterest! I found quite a few ideas, but I liked this one the best, because Luke could participate.

Here is the original pin. . .

And my version:

007

I used stickers to spell out L-O-V-E and put smaller stickers on the bottom for LUKE 2012.

012009

Then, I put a old t-shirt on Luke, and let him get his hands full of pink sparkly paint and go to town. He loved feeling the paint and putting his hands on the canvas. Perfect activity for a 9 month old. He put paint everywhere, even on the sides!

011

*Disclaimer – we got paint everywhere! I was happy that I was wearing old clothes, I had Luke covered up and we had an old sheet down!*

I did add a little extra paint around the letters to make them stand out, but most of the paint was done by Luke! Then, I let it dry, and peeled off the stickers. Added the ribbon with a hot glue gun to be able to hang it.

Here are some other ideas that I found on Pinterest. . ..
