TYT #8: Freezer Meals

So, when Laura was here this weekend, she had the awesome idea of putting together some freezer meals. And I was totally game. We texted back and forth and used Pinterest to come up with some ideas. And we agreed on 8 meals to make. So, we were ready to go on Saturday morning.

We picked up Caribou and hit up Aldi, Sam’s and Cub Foods.

We spent $232 total, so $116 per person for 8 meals. + some things that we had at home already – mostly spices.

We got right to work. We found that it worked the best for us to tackle one recipe at a time and work together. We also both took turns chopping onions, browning the beef, writing on bags, etc.

We made:

Chinese beef and broccoli
Crockpot Chicken Cacciatore
Crockpot Chicken Fajitas
Pizza Casserole
Cheesy Chicken Chalupas
Quesadilla Casserole
Crockpot Pot Roast
Hawaiian BBQ Pork

And now we both have FULL freezers. I am planning on making each meal – at least one per week – and then doing a blog update for #1. how each meal froze #2. how many servings each made #3. and overall success – ie would I make it again? So stay tuned!

We had so much fun putting the meals together and are already planning on doing it again.

  5. I have been freezing a lot of leftovers lately. I’ve found that my microwave’s “reheat” option brings them from frozen to tasty without worrying about thawing. I love that!

What a great idea. I can’t wait to hear how all of the things turn out when you cook them. I’ve always wondered about freezer cooking but I’m always afraid that they won’t cook quite right.

I know, it’s always a bit of a gamble. . knock on wood, I haven’t had any freezer meal fails yet!

  7. I’m super impressed with all that ambition! I’m excited to hear a review for each one too, cause I see recipes online all the time, but never hear how they actually turn out.

  8. Treating your future self is always the best! I cannot wait until we have freezer room to make meals like this because girlfrand gets lazy on weeknights and prepping a meal just seems like too much work 😉
