We just got home from a long weekend traveling! We headed to Chicago on Friday. Wedding in Chicago on Saturday. Back to Wisconsin to the Lake on Sunday. And back home today. I am tired and there is a ton of laundry to do, but it was a really fun weekend.
We drove to the Lake on Thursday night to drop off Abby and Luke with my family. . . car dessert was needed!!
Friday afternoon we drove down to Chicago.
And only got stuck in traffic for about 45 minutes!
The last time I got stuck in traffic just outside of Chicago on my way to visit Scott at Purdue in Indiana, I was stuck for 2+ hours, so I was totally anticipating the worst! But, we made it. Checked into the hotel. Took quick showers and headed out to dinner. You could just see a little bit of Lake Michigan from our window.
My friend, Beth, told me about this really good burger place called Kuma’s Corner. The wait was about 45 minutes, but we were able to snag seats at the bar right away. The music was crazy loud. But it was one awesome burger (The Iron Maiden). Pretzel roll, lots of toppings. Drool. No pictures because it was crazy dark.
Saturday we got up and had breakfast with Jared –a friend of Scott’s from high school who was also one of Scott’s groomsman in our wedding. He was in town for the wedding too. Per the hotel’s concierge’s recommendations, we hit up Wildberry, which was right across from Millennium park.
When they bring you this plate of syrup and butter before your meal comes – you know it is going to be good!!
I had the highly recommended (via Yelp) berry bliss pancakes and they were ah-mazing. We had good food and good conversation.
Afterwards, we hit up Millennium park. Had to go check out “The Bean.”
And then we walked the Magnificent mile. And did some shopping too.
We tried to get some pizza for lunch, but after being told the wait was about 2 hours, we went in search of something else and ended up at this place.
I had never had Asian buns before – they were interesting. The pot stickers were really good!
We also had some afternoon snacks. . .
Then, it was wedding time! It was a beautiful ceremony and reception. And I got to finally wear my new dress!
After a night of catching up with friends and some dancing and of course, cake (well, cupcakes). We slept in on Sunday and then went for a run. It was perfect weather. 55 degrees and the sun was shining. 3.1 miles for my 31st birthday!
In my new lululemon shorts! Birthday present from Scott and Luke!!
We stopped on our way out of town for some Chicago deep dish pizza – and it did not disappoint.
And we made our way back to the Lake.
Of course had to stop for my free birthday drink from Caribou!!
Birthday dinner, cake and presents. It was a really great 31st birthday!!
Monday was pretty low key. We just hung out. Laura came over with her new boyfriend, Tom. And they totally brought me Starbucks!!
So, we hung out for a while. Played cards, went for a walk, played with Lukie, and fixed the dock before it goes into the water for the summer.
And we were up bright and early this morning, because Luke decided he didn’t want to sleep past 6am!
But, that was ok because we had things to do. We took Abby to the vet to get her yearly checkup and shots. Everything checked out ok!
And then, stopped in the cities to have lunch with Scott’s parents and let Luke play for a while.
And, finally, back home. Where laundry is already piled up and ready to go. We have been busy bunnies and already have everything unpacked and put away. Luke is napping. And I am just waiting for him to wake up so we can go for a run together!
And now I totally feel out of the loop, because I had almost no internet access the whole time. $200+ hotel room in downtown Chicago and they want me to pay $15 for internet per day. . . ummm no. And then internet is spotty at best at the Lake and it just wasn’t working this weekend. So, what were you up? Catch me up?
**Reminder to local bloggers – there will be a get-together THIS Sunday (June 2nd) at 2pm at Yogurt Lab at their Calhoun location – 3100 Excelsior Boulevard. Followed by a walk around the lake!! Follow me on Twitter for updates. And let me know if you are planning to attend!
