Winter running

I run in all seasons, but my favorite, by far, is winter.

Everyone else disappears to the indoors – treadmills, indoor tracks.. . Don’t get me wrong – you know I love a good warm run on my treadmill complete with Netflix on my iPad, but outside is the best. Bundled up all warm. No need to worry about how you look – you look like a marshmallow trying to stay warm!

You can’t run too fast because of the snow and ice. High intensity workout bounding over snow ridges and if you happen to run through a foot of snow – crazy high heart rate!

And there is something truly magical about running in the fresh fallen snow. Crunching along almost silently. Just you and your quiet footfalls on the snow.

My absolute favorite is after the sun has set and it is still snowing. The world is quite, the snow looking beautiful through the street lights. If you never been out at that time, give it a go. Leave your music at home, just run, you and the snow. It is the best.

  1. I think my favorite season to run is fall. No heat, no humidity, no ice that always makes me fall. Plus I am always super motivated knowing that I won’t have too many chances for a nice long run until spring. I wish I had your winter running abilities! I am far too clumsy to run in the snow, I trip even when running on dry cement 😉

I like it as long as it’s not too icy! Although either way my running takes a backseat to xcountry skiing when the snow is good 🙂

  3. You make running in the snow sound so magical. I need to try and suck it up more. Love the photo with the snow in your lashes.

I wish I could enjoy running outside in the cold! But the thought of running outside in the cold makes me want to skip my run completely.
